Juventus boss Allegri admits more "determination" needed from players after defeat to Verona

Image
Allegri admits any words he has at this stage in the critis are "meaningless". "Words are meaningless right now. We're in a bad situation, we have to accept the reality that right now we are a mid-table team. We can get out of this situation with a little more determination and quality," Allegri told DAZN. “We will drag ourselves out of this situation. There's no point feeling sorry for ourselves, that won't help, we just need to focus on what we need to do and then things will sort themselves out." Juventus have conceded 15 goals after 11 rounds, their worst tally since 1961-62. “It's a good squad, but things don't always go your way in football. We have to react with pride and determination. We had to play like a team that had one point, and we did, now we have to play like a team that has 15 points. “We realised Verona were going to make it physical and a battle for every ball, so if you don't meet them at that level, you will lose....

Highlight Getafe 2 - 1 Espanyol: Ünal brace leads Azulones to maiden victory

Image
Enes Ünal scored twice in the 2-1 victory to help steer La Liga’s bottom-placed club Getafe to their first win of the season - extending their unbeaten run over Espanyol at the Coliseum Alfonso PĆ©rez to six matches. In a match-up between two of Madrid and Barcelona’s lesser-established sides, Enes Ünal opened the scoring for Getafe with a goal worthy of winning any ClĆ”sico. Teeing the ball up with his first touch, the former Manchester City striker’s acrobatic overhead kick was no match for Diego López in the Espanyol goal, who was unable to stop the league’s bottom-placed club from taking the lead. There would be no such elegance for the visitors’ equaliser just seven minutes later, when Sergi Gómez bundled in from close-range to restore parity before HT. Leandro Cabrera’s initial header had cannoned back off the woodwork, leaving the Espanyol defender time and space inside the six-yard box to prod home and ensure Vicente Moreno’s side would go into the break on level terms. Chasing t...

Highlight Atl. Madrid 3 - 0 Betis: AtlƩti weather the Halloween storm

Image
AtlĆ©tico Madrid showed why they are the defending La Liga champions on a wet and windy day at the Wanda Metropolitano, beating Real Betis 3-0, extending their winning streak against 'Los Verdes’ at home to nine games. Despite the match being played in the midst of torrential rain, both teams began proceedings on the front foot, creating a flurry of chances in the opening 15 minutes, and it would be a moment of magic from ‘Los Colchoneros’ that would open the scoring.  Just before the 30th minute mark, AtlĆ©ti broke from their own half with rip-roaring pace, with the ball eventually finding Yannick Carrasco who breezed past a Betis defender and lashed the ball into the roof of the net to give the hosts the lead. In typical fashion, Simeone’s men set up shop after scoring, and took their one goal lead into the dressing room at HT. While they pushed hard to level the score in the second half, disaster struck for ‘Los Verdiblancos’ 63 minutes into the match when GermĆ”n Pezzella headed t...

Marchisio admits former club Juventus have many problems after their defeat to Hellas Verona

Image
Defeat to Verona followed on from a loss at home to Sassuolo in midweek. “This is a difficult moment," Marchisio posted to social media. “There are so many problems, but it's not just about the quality of the individuals. “This is a side lacking a tempo, intensity and determination, as well as a tactical idea to build on. “However, we fans must always stay close to the team, especially now. More united than ever!" Marchisio added: “We're completely lost at sea. Verona with such great tempo and intensity."

Highlight Salernitana 0 - 1 Napoli - Napoli claim bragging rights in Campania derby

Image
Despite both teams going down to ten men, SSC Napoli overcame Salernitana 1-0 at Stadio Arechi - which was just the second time in their history that they have won ten of their opening 11 Serie A games. Nineteenth place Salernitana were looking to cause a huge upset against top of the table Napoli who had only dropped two points this whole Serie A campaign. To the hosts credit they defended brilliantly from the start, making it incredibly difficult for Napoli to break them down and create any clear cut chances even though they retained over 70% possession.  It was clear this was a derby game, with plenty of fiesty tackles flying in during the first half which unfortunately accompanied any real quality from either side in the final third, leaving the scores level at 0-0 at HT. Napoli finally got their breakthrough just after the hour mark, and against the run of play, when Matteo Politano’s header struck the crossbar which the hosts failed to clear the loose ball, leaving Piotr Ziel...

Highlight Brest 2 - 0 Monaco: Brest break Ligue 1 duck in style

Image
Franck Honorat’s late strike sealed a precious three points for Brest who shone to earn an unlikely 2-0 victory over in-form Monaco. Mercifully, victory called time on a torrid 11-game winless run which kicked off the 'Pirates’ Ligue 1 campaign, while a first clean sheet of the season made their afternoon’s work even sweeter.  What the Stade Francis-Le BlĆ© lacks in size, the Brest faithful make up for in passion and their support was swiftly rewarded by Steve MouniĆ©. A whipped free-kick was flicked on perfectly by JĆ©rĆ©my Le Douaron, leaving the Benin international with the simplest of tasks to lash in at the far post.  Monaco’s Caio Henrique was left seething, however, when replays of his foul that led to Brest’s opener clearly showed his shirt being pulled. Minutes later, MouniĆ© came within a foot of doubling the advantage when his powerful drive narrowly cleared the bar, and during a first half in which the visitors created very little, manager Niko Kovač’s touchline yellow ...

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson clashed with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain during yesterday's 2-2 draw with Brighton

Image
The Reds dropped two points at Anfield on Saturday as they failed to build on their emphatic win over Manchester United last weekend. What is even more infuriating for the Reds is that were 2-0 up after 25 minutes thanks to goals from the Liverpool skipper and Sadio Mane. But the Seagulls showed great character to get back into the match as strikes from Enock Mwepu and Leandro Trossard secured an unlikely 2-2 draw. The Mirror reports tempers flared in the second half in the Liverpool camp as Henderson was seen getting into an argument with Oxlade-Chamberlain, who replaced the injured Naby Keita in the first half. There was a breakdown in communication in the build-up to Trossard's equaliser which saw the pair share a few choice words with one another.

Norwich 1 - 2 Leeds: Raphinha and Rodrigo pile pressure on Farke

Image
It only took five second-half minutes for Leeds United and Norwich City to decide this one as a quick flurry of goals saw winless Norwich stay rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table after Leeds ran out 2-1 winners - their third H2H away-win from their last seven encounters.    This fixture was a bottom-of-the-table clash with both sides starting in the relegation zone ahead of kick-off, with only a single Premier League win between them. Leeds had the first chance to take the lead eight minutes in when Stuart Dallas’ brilliant through ball sent Daniel James in on goal, allowing the Welsh winger to round Tim Krul, only to see his shot brilliantly blocked on the line by Grant Hanley. The remainder of the first half turned into a very scrappy affair with neither side creating many chances. Raphinha was by far the best player on the pitch during the opening 45 minutes, looking dangerous every time he got the ball, although he couldn’t find a way past a resolute Norwich d...

Aston Villa 1 - 4 West Ham: Hammers superb in Halloween thriller

Image
West Ham put on a frightening display to win back-to-back trips to Villa Park for the first time since 1967, as they trounced ten-man Aston Villa 4-1. It was a nightmare start for Villa, conceding after only seven minutes. Ben Johnson was given acres of space on the right side, and after being picked out excellently by Declan Rice, he ghosted past Matt Targett and drilled in his first senior goal into the bottom left-corner to put the ‘Hammers’ 1-0 up. Though, as the match went on the hosts wrestled back control, and in their best spell of the half they drew level.  This time Emiliano BuendĆa did brilliantly down the right, and picked out Ollie Watkins, whose shot crept in despite the best efforts of Łukasz Fabiański. All their hard work was washed away however, as West Ham responded sternly and retook the lead before HT via a Declan Rice screamer. The start of the second half saw the ‘Villans’ horror show go from bad to worse, as Ezri Konsa brought down Jarrod Bowen through on goa...

Chelsea defender Christensen a step away from signing a new deal

Image
The Denmark defender has been in talks about a new deal since before the end of last season. His current contract expires in June. Italian transfer expert Nicolo Schira reports Christensen has settled on terms to 2026. Schira says only minor details need to be settled. Negotiations between the two parties are now in the final stage, with the player's father driving the talks

Barcelona striker Aguero taken to hospital for tests after suffering chest discomfort

Image
The former Manchester City striker Aguero went down holding onto the top of his chest and received treatment for several minutes before being helped off the pitch just before half-time. Barcelona later said he was admitted to hospital to have a "cardiac exam". Luis Rioja earned Alaves a point after Memphis Depay's opening curling effort. Former Manchester City striker Aguero, 33, was taken away in an ambulance and Barca interim boss Sergi Barjuan told La Liga TV: "I can't tell you much more. I know he has been taken to a hospital and they are having tests done." The Argentine was making his first start for the club since his move in the summer. Source: Tribalfootball

Gary Neville: Jadon Sancho could face same fate as Donny van de Beek

Image
Jadon Sancho has been an unused substitute in United's last two matches against Liverpool and Tottenham, and Neville can't help but feel he could suffer the same fate as Van de Beek. He said: "Do you know something, I can't help but think about Van de Beek. "Who's put the name on him, who is sponsoring him at Manchester United, that kid who has sat in the stands and not kicked a football. "Sancho if he's not careful, is going to end up exactly the same. "He's played in some pretty appalling performances, not him, I mean team performances. "He's come into a club that's looked totally disjointed in terms of their football, he's played in a far better unit at Borussia Dortmund. "He's come in and is probably thinking, 'What the hell am I doing here, what is this, there's no organisation or structure?' "He's the only player if you look at Manchester United's defensive running stats that is anywher...

Arteta delivers Tierney injury update

Image
The Scottish international missed Saturday's 2-0 win over Leicester and has not played for the Gunners since their 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace on October 18. “Well he didn't train with the team yesterday. He still wasn't feeling good," said Arteta. “He is still in pain. He is not comfortable when he is running, so he was struggling. “We are trying to help him as much as possible. We need him back and I don't know when that will be."

Tottenham board in emergency talks over the future of manager Nuno Espirito

Image
As per the Telegraph, Nuno's fate could be decided today as the Spurs board head into 'emergency talks'. After Saturday's 3-0 defeat against Manchester United Tottenham players were  hammered by their own fans, consigning Spurs to their fifth Premier League defeat of the season. If they decide to wield the axe, it would mark the end of an extremely short tenure in north London after the Portuguese was appointed just four months ago. Indeed, Spurs only arrived on the former Wolves manager's doorstep after they explored numerous other options including Antonio Conte, Paulo Fonseca and Gennaro Gattuso. Still, the hierarchy gave him plenty of money to spend during the summer, but they appear to be going backwards on the pitch.

Martin Keown praise Arsenal trio Ben White, Gabriel and Ramsdale after Leicester victory

Image
Arsenal Legend Martin Keown is full of praise defensive duo Ben White,Gabriel and Goalkeeper Ramsdale after victory at Leicester "They've been involved in the success since that heavy defeat to Man City," Keown told BT Sport after the clash. "Gabriel, Ben White, forming a really good partnership - for me they've got everything. “Gabriel, particularly, with balls in the box, the amount of times - I think he had the most clearances today. Really strong defensively." Keown also spoke of goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. "You need a character," Keown continued. “I was always fortunate to play with some fantastic goalkeepers. “He looks like a real character. The fans now love him. It helps when you're throwing shirts into the crowd but it certainly helps more when you're pulling off outstanding saves as he did today. “On average last year he made the second most saves last season and his average was four. “He is happier being busy and the really clas...

Reece James hail squad team spirit after Newcastle win

Image
Chelsea defender Reece James hail squad team spirit after he struck twice as Chelsea saw off Newcastle . He later said, “Coming away from home to St James' Park, which is a tough place, and picking up three points when the two teams behind have dropped points is obviously a great result for us and puts us in a strong position. “Everyone loves playing and everyone wants to win, the team spirit in the changing room at the moment is unbelievable." Chelsea now seat at the top of the Premier League table with 25 points 3 points above second place Liverpool.

Robertson admits a lot of frustration after 2-2 draw with Brighton

Image
Liverpool full-back Robertson admits the team were left frustrated at not being able to turn around the in-game momentum which saw them drop two points at home to Brighton. “In the dressing room it feels like a defeat. Being 2-0 up and giving away a lead, it's never nice," he told LFCTV. “There's frustration. We couldn't have asked for a better start, we scored two great goals but we let Brighton do what they were good at. “They started getting a wee bit confident. At half-time we needed to put it right and we didn't do that. “When we're playing at Anfield and we're 2-0 up, we expect to come away with three points and we've not done that and that's why it's so frustrating." Inter 2 - 0 Udinese: Clinical Correa inspires Inter

Image
Inter Milan closed the gap at the top of Serie A after a 2-0 victory over Udinese at the San Siro. JoaquĆn Correa scored a brace as the ‘Nerazzurri’ continued their excellent H2H record against Udinese, losing just one of the last 14 league meetings. Several first-team regulars were left on the bench ahead of Inter’s Champions League meeting with Sheriff Tiraspol in midweek, leading to a lack of fluency in a cagey first half. Nicolò Barella was the player that looked the most threatening, but the midfielder was unable to break the deadlock from four attempts on goal.  His best opportunity came on a swift counter attack as Correa’s clever pass gave him a one-on-one, but his low effort was well saved by Marco Silvestri. Andrea Ranocchia also had a good chance to open the scoring, but his close-range header sailed over the bar. Simone Inzaghi’s men were finally rewarded for their dominance, taking a deserved lead on the hour mark. Correa’s mazy run into the box was finished wonderfull...

"Man of the match for me, by a mile,": Solskjaer on McTominay performance against Tottenham

Image
Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay put in a commanding performance in the middle of the park as the Reds put in the perfect response to last week's humiliation at home to Liverpool. "Man of the match for me, by a mile," Solskjaer said of his performance. “That's the Scott we've seen a few times before. "He's had his injury, operation this season but today I thought he was absolutely brilliant, won his tackles, drove forward, kept the ball simple, switched play, headed away set-plays. Absolute top."

Mariano confirms he will need operation following nose fracture

Image
Reports claimed that Mariano fractured his nose in the match against Elche. The Real Madrid striker has confirmed it on his Instagram. "I couldn't be happier with my debut and with the team's win, but, unfortunately, after a bad fall, I broke my nose and I will need to get it operated," Mariano has written. "I will be out for a few days, but I already look forward to being back with my teammates. Another bump in the road, another reason to keep fighting." The match against Elche became Mariano's first of the season. The 28-year-old did not score but he provided the assist to Vinicius Junior's first goal. Source: marianodiazmejia @ Instagram

Chelsea defender Toni Rudiger admits contract talks have been suspended

Image
Rudiger's current deal expires at the end of the season. He told the Guardian: "The most important thing is that I feel happy here. I think anyone can say that. "The renewal? On the contractual situation I speak with the club. "I said we would speak after the European Championship and there was a meeting between Marina Granovskaia and my agent. Nothing has changed, but I have nothing to dealing with all the speculations about my future. I don't think about it, I'm focused on what I'm doing."

Liverpool join the race for Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni

Image
According to Tuttosport, Liverpool has joined the list of many other clubs interested in signing the France international. Report also states that Italian Juventus have joined the race to sign Tchouameni, with the Serie A giants plotting to make a move 'between January and June'. The midfielder has broken into the France team this year. It has also been claimed that Liverpool, Chelsea and Real Madrid are also interested in Tchouameni, and could provide added competition for the 21-year-old.

Liverpool midfielder Keita set to miss Atletico game due to injury

Image
Naby Keita had to be substituted early in the game against Brighton as the midfielder picked up another injury. The Reds have now confirmed that it's a hamstring issue and that Keita will be unavailable for the Atletico clash. Keita will undergo a scan on the issue to determine its severity but Klopp said: "If somebody feels the hamstring, it would be the first time that he is ready for the next game. So, I can’t see that." Liverpool's midfield has looked light for a lot of the recent weeks but Thiago and Fabinho's imminent returns should help that. Source: liverpoolfc.com

Liverpool's board eager to tie Mo Salah to a new contract by January

Image
According to Football Insider says SG and Liverpool want to get Salah's contract sorted before the January transfer window opens. The report states that FSG want to get Salah tied down to a new deal very soon, and well ahead of when the transfer window opens on January 1. It has also been claimed that FSG believe that should negotiations over Salah's contract drag on into the New Year, hopes of agreeing an extension will “all but evaporate". For his part, Reds manager Jurgen Klopp is eager to see the striker secured to a new deal. Source: Tribalfootball

Barcelona receives major boost as Fati, De Jong and Roberto returns ahead of UCL game

Image
Ansu Fati, Frenkie de Jong and Sergi Roberto trained together with the rest of the Barcelona group on Sunday, Gerard Romero reports. As per previous reports, Fati and De Jong could return in time for the match against Dynamo Kyiv on Tuesday, November 2. Roberto's participation is a bigger surprise, though. He was expected to miss for a longer time initially but it seems like he could be back earlier. This is definitely good news for Sergi Barjuan ahead of the game since Barca already have a long injury list. Source: gerardromero @ Twitter

Antonio Conte back on the agenda of Tottenham after poor start

Image
Tottenham new manager Nuno is under tremendous pressure after a poor start to the season, including yesterday's 3-0 defeat to Manchester United. TMW says Spurs definitely want to take Conte as their new coach. The communication lines are running hot and there is even talk of a potentially quick agreement. Conte has been out of work ever since leaving Inter at the end of last season's title winning campaign. Source: Tribalfootball

Chelsea player compares his two goals which is better against Newcastle

Image
"I think the first one was probably better, it was on my weaker foot and it was a good finish," said James after the game, as per chelseafc.com. "The ball came to me in the box and I was going to take it first time but I decided to take a touch and it opened up on my left, so I cut inside and took it on my left foot. "The strike was good, as soon as it left my foot I knew it was a goal. "The second one was easier, the goalie wasn’t really in the goal. It was almost an empty goal so I just put my foot through it!" That James was able to score twice and ensure a victory for Chelsea is an impressive feat for a wing-back. He will be hoping to utilize his technique to even better effect this year thanks to the license Tuchel's system allows him. Source: chelseafc.com

Barcelona technical secretary reveal Xavi not only option to replace Koeman

Image
As quoted by Movistar, vice president of Barcelona Rafa Yuste said: "The technical secretary is working on several options [to replace Ronald Koeman]. "Xavi is one of them, but not the only one." The club legend is believed to be the most likely candidate to become the new Barcelona manager. Xavi is reportedly waiting for Al-Saad to terminate his contract but it remains to be seen if he gets the job. Source: Movistar

The exact date of his return is not specified as it will depend on his recovery process. This term so far, Pique has played 13 games for Barca, scoring two goals. As per the reliable Javi Miguel of Diario AS, the veteran defender played through the Clasico with muscle discomfort but the coaching staff continued to count on Gerard.

Solskjaer laud the experience of Edinson Cavani and Cristiano

Image
In the post-match interview, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: "The experience of Edinson Cavani and Cristiano [Ronaldo] is massive. "We need it - we can't hide. The week has been difficult for all the players. They really stuck at it. Experience counts in situations like this. "The old men led from the front." Manchester United outplayed Tottenham Hotspur to win 3-0 and effectively keep Ole's job safe. Ronaldo was one of the standout performers with a goal and an assist while Cavani's work rate and finishing was simply out of this world.

Chelsea's performance against Newcastle Break down

Image
Tactics Thomas Tuchel was forced to change his plan after Mason Mount went down with illness on the morning of the matchday. Instead of switching to a 3-5-2 formation, he replaced Mount in the front three with Hakim Ziyech. Unfortunately, this change did not work: Ziyech was busy and tried to make things happen but could not. N'Golo Kante also struggled against a team that sat deep and never let him show his best qualities. Only after these two players were subbed off, Chelsea succeeded in breaking Newcastle's defence down. Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ross Barkley, the two players who came on, contributed to some of the goals. So, we can say that Tuchel's starting XI plan did not quite work, but his substitution did. Tactics score: 7/10 Defending Truth be told, Newcastle did not really force Chelsea to defend at all. The Magpies only had the ball for 21 per cent of the time and made just one shot on target. Still, Thomas Tuchel was very complimentary after the match about his pl...

Verona 2 - 1 Juventus: Sensational Simeone compounds Juve blues

Image
Juventus’ stuttering start to this season’s Serie A campaign continued as Giovanni Simeone made it eight goals in his last four starts with a first-half double to take Hellas Verona above ‘la Vecchia Signora’ after a superb 2-1 win. Juve had only tasted victory once in their last six games at the Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi before today’s encounter and it was the hosts who took the lead on 11 minutes. Simeone scored four against Lazio last weekend and he broke the deadlock here, tucking into virtually an open goal after Arthur’s disastrous blind pass back towards his own area rolled through to AntonĆn BarĆ”k, whose shot was parried away by Szczęsny into the striker’s path.  Massimiliano Allegri’s men had barely had time to catch their breath when Simeone, the son of AtlĆ©tico Madrid manager Diego, received a pass from Darko Lazović 25 yards from goal and curled wonderfully beyond Szczęsny from the left edge of the area for Verona’s eighth goal out of 24 in the opening 15 minutes of ...

Tottenham 0 - 3 Manchester Utd: Ole and CR7 answer critics in style

Image
Goals by Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford handed Manchester United an invaluable win against Tottenham Hotspur in London, to help silence the critics - at least for now. Ole Gunnar SolskjƦr opted for five at the back following their shocking 5-0 loss to Liverpool last week, whilst both Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani started upfront hoping to benefit from Manchester United’s obvious game plan of sitting deep, to hit Spurs on the counter-attack.  The hosts failed to take advantage of this however, allowing United to play out from the back under little pressure. It took 23 minutes for the first big chance to materialise and it fell to Tottenham’s Son Heung-min who could only blast his shot over from close range.  Tottenham thought they had taken the lead a few minutes later when Cristian Romero turned the ball in at the back post, but it was swiftly ruled out for offside. United then made the ‘Lilywhites’ pay for not making their domination count, when ...

Gallagher on Crystal Palace win at Man City "It was brilliant honestly

Image
Chelsea loaner Conor Gallagher was among the scorers as Crystal Palace stun Mancherster City at home to steal all three point. Gallagher later said: "It was brilliant honestly. What a feeling to finally get a bit of luck on our side even though we deserved. To get three points against a team like that away is a great feeling. We can take confidence from that. "To get a goal early on helped a lot because we had something to hold on to. To keep a clean sheet even though they were down to 10 men is still not easy with the players they have. "I should not have even been in the box. The boss told me to sit in but I just had a feeling I could get a chance and thankfully I was able to finish it. "We've been unlucky with results in the last few games. When you come to Manchester City you naturally defend more and work a little bit harder. We were brilliant defensively. "I thought Wilf [Zaha] was through on goal and he [Aymeric Laporte] had to be sent off." N...

Crystal Palace stun Man City 0-2 in Etihad

Image
Crystal Palace scored one of the biggest shocks of the season, beating reigning champions Manchester City 2-0 to boost their credentials for a top-half finish under rookie manager Patrick Vieira. Despite Manchester City being heavy favourites, it was Crystal Palace who struck first only six minutes into the match, when the visitors were able to steal the ball off of a City defender.  Conor Gallagher and Wilfried Zaha combined with the Ivorian sneaking in behind the City defence to coolly slot the ball home and give the visitors an unlikely early lead at the Etihad Stadium. Moments before the HT whistle, it would get much worse for Pep Guardiola’s men, when Aymeric Laporte took down Wilfried Zaha as the Palace attacker attempted to break away in behind, forcing the referee to send the City defender off. Despite being down a man, it would be City who came out in the second half with the bit between their teeth. On the hour mark, Gabriel Jesus appeared to level proceeding...

Brighton stun wasteful Liverpool to steal point at Anfield

Image
Liverpool squandered a two-goal lead to be held to a draw by Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield. The 'Seagulls’ continued their impressive record, now unbeaten in their last three Premier League meetings with the Merseyside giants. Jurgen Klopp's side were flying high after consecutive 5-0 wins in the Premier League, and continued their good form, taking an early lead.  Virgil Van Dijk’s pass isolated Mohamed Salah against Marc Cucurella and the Egyptian cut inside before laying off to Jordan Henderson to finish. The skipper slotted into the far corner brilliantly to put the hosts ahead, just a minute after Alisson made a superb stop to deny Solly March at the other end. Despite controlling possession, Liverpool continued to be open defensively and had another scare as Yves Bissouma’s effort was tipped onto the post by Alisson. Their quality in the final third was brutal, though, as they doubled their lead after 24 minutes. Substitute Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s pinpoint cr...

Lewandowski double sink Union Berlin in seven-goal thriller

Image
Bayern Munich gave the best possible response to their humiliating exit from the German Cup in midweek, as they swept aside Union Berlin, rubber-stamping their superiority at the top of the Bundesliga. The away side came into the contest looking to immediately bounce back from their heaviest defeat since 1978, and started in lively fashion as Robert Lewandowski fired home his 11th league goal of the season from the penalty spot, after a strike from Leroy SanĆ© was harshly adjudged to have struck an arm in the box. Having scored a record-breaking 33 goals in their opening nine league matches, Bayern continued to assert their authority on proceedings, and doubled their lead eight minutes later with a piece of brilliance.  A well-worked free-kick routine on the edge of the box found Lewandowski, and the Polish marksman clinically dispatched the ball into the top corner, leaving Andreas Luthe in the Union Berlin goal helpless. The home keeper was soon picking the ball out of his ...

Clinical Dortmund put 2 pass impressive FC Koln

Image
Borussia Dortmund matched a record from 1994, as they secured a ninth-straight Bundesliga home victory, but they were made to fight for it by an impressive Cologne performance before their superior pressing clinched the points. Dortmund came into the game without their top scorer Erling Haaland, and that appeared to embolden the visitors, who started without fear, and even had the ball in the net after 15 minutes. In a move that seemed too good to be true, Mark Uth smartly slotted the ball home, but the referee ruled that the striker had controlled the ball with his hand. The home side continued to struggle without a focal point in attack, but they should have taken the lead after outstanding work from Marius Wolf. He outpaced the Cologne defence and pulled the ball back for Marco Reus, but the usually reliable talisman failed to convert from a central position and wasted a fantastic opportunity. Dortmund did find the opener just before HT, and it was an outstanding piece of play from ...

Mikel Arteta delighted with their 2-0 win at Leicester

Image
Arsenal defender Gabriel and Smith Rowe both scored to hand the gunners a very vital win against Leicester. Arteta later said: "I was really happy, against a top team. It is really hard to come here and win. The way we did it - we had to come here and suffer and we managed the game really well in the second half." On goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale's save from James Maddison's free-kick: "I have just seen the pictures, it was incredible. He saved them both. Those moments, the individual actions they are needed. "We created a lot of issues for them. We carried on playing after 1-0 and scored the second. We knew they would change and get at us. There were moments we didn't manage situations well enough but in the last 20 minutes we modified things and got control back in the game. "We need to carry on. We haven't done anything - we won a couple of matches and we want to improve. There are a lot of positives but there are a lot of things to improve....

Tuchel: admits wing-backs James and Chilwell must score regularly

Image
Chelsea's German tactician Tuchel has urged his wing-back James and Chilwell to start producing goals. "It's a very important position, the system that we play," said Tuchel. "Of course, a very important part of the position is to arrive in the box, and to create a goal threat from the position. "This is what we want and what we demand. I'm happy that Chilly is scoring and reaching his full potential, and pushing limits constantly because it fits pretty perfectly his personal player profile. "For Reece, you see sometimes he plays in the back-three but this means that I would not do this with Chilly.
