Fabrizio Romano: Man United 'following' Ajax's Antony ahead of summer transfer

Image
Manchester United are 'following' Ajax sensation Antony ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano, a tier-one source. The 22-year-old forward has emerged as a key player for the Dutch side this season, scoring 11 goals and providing 9 assists in 28 games across all competitions. The Brazilian, who already has 7 national team caps to his name, could be a perfect fit at Old Trafford with the Red Devils continuing to search for a left-footed right winger. Should the Red Devils appoint Ajax's Erik Ten Hag as their next permanent manager this summer, it's possible that Antony could follow his boss to Manchester. Source: FabrizioRomano @ Twitter

Have Liverpool surpassed United in total trophies count after Carabao Cup win?

Image
Liverpool defeated Chelsea in a penalty shootout to win the 2021/22 Carabao Cup title. It was the first domestic cup competition they have won under Jurgen Klopp in his 7 years in charge. With the title win, there have been quite a few LFC fans on social media boasting themselves about being the ‘most decorated team in England’. In actuality, they have won 66 major trophies in their history – tying Man United’s record of 66 titles. Now the debate among LFC fans is that community shield titles shouldn’t be counted, as United have won that 21 times as compared to their 16 wins. If one was to keep the community shield wins out, then LFC would have 49 trophies as compared to United’s 45. But the community shield is, of course, relevant enough to be considered in a team’s total major trophies count. So, for the time being, United and Liverpool have the same amount of trophies in their history – but it’ll take the Red Devils some doing to regain their formerly lost lead this season. Source: ...

How much Liverpool earned by winning Carabao Cup

Image
Liverpool lifted the Carabao Cup last night after beating Chelsea in a penalty shoot-out. The game was goalless after 120 minutes. Kepa was the fall guy for Chelsea after coming on for the shoot-out, not saving a single penalty and missing the deciding spot-kick. The win meant Liverpool's first trophy of the season and a total prize sum of £100,000. It is a relatively small amount compared to the lucrative winnings of the Premier League and Champions League trophies but still holds value as being one of the most prestigious competitions in football. The win also made Liverpool the record-holders of the competition winning it for a 9th time. It will give the Reds some wind in their sails to push on for the title-race after lifting the cup. Barcelona close to reaching Kessie agreement, salary offer revealed

Image
Barcelona have accelerated the talks over Franck Kessie, according to Gianluca Di Marzio. Nothing is closed yet but everything indicates that the Milan star will join the Catalans in the summer, reliable Ferran Correas adds. Barca's financial offer is around €6.5m net per year. The Ivorian would be 5th on the current list of Blaugrana's highest-paid players with this wage. Kessie's current deal with Milan expires in July, so he would arrive as a free agent. The 25-year-old could play as a defensive midfielder, a box-to-box midfielder or even as an attacking midfielder. He has made 26 appearances for Milan this season, scoring 6 goals and providing one assist. Source: Matteo Moretto; Di Marzio; Ferran Correas

'Had to get stitches because of this': Chalobah left confused by referee's decision

Image
Trevoh Chalobah collided with Naby Keita in the 58th minute of the Carabao Cup final. Keita appeared to catch the Chelsea player with his studs but he got away with just a yellow. Chalobah took to Twitter as he was left understandably frustrated with the decision: Had to get stitches because of this. Referee is right there I don’t get it?? šŸ¤¦šŸ¾‍♂️ https://t.co/8kXIgpS4wO — Trevoh Chalobah (@TrevohChalobah) February 27, 2022 A red card for Liverpool would have have swung the odds massively in Chelsea's favour but it seems to be a case of referees being scared to make big calls in big matches.

FIFA and UEFA suspend Russia and ban country from World Cup

Image
FIFA and UEFA have jointly suspended Russia and Russian clubs until further notice with an official decision coming on Monday. The International Olympic Committee has previously recommended to ban Russian athletes and officials from all international sports competitions. FIFA's previous ruling, which ordered Russia to compete in neutral territory, under the title Football Union of Russia, and without their flag and anthem, was slammed for being too soft. The latest decision means that Russia, which invaded Ukraine last week, will be banned from the 2022 World Cup qualification play-offs in March where they were set to face Poland in the semi-final. Spartak Moscow, the only Russian side remaining in Europe this season, will also be forbidden from continuing in the Europa League. Therefore, Bundesliga club RB Leipzig have automatically advanced to the quarter-finals. A joint FIFA and UEFA statement reads: "Football is fully united here and in full solidarity with all the people ...

Roman Abramovich hands over ‘stewardship' of Chelsea to club's 'charitable foundation'

Image
Roman Abramovich has released the following statement via the club's official website: "During my nearly 20-year ownership of Chelsea FC, I have always viewed my role as a cust odian of the Club, whose job it is ensuring that we are as successful as we can be today, as well as build for the future, while also playing a positive role in our communities. "I have always taken decisions with the Club’s best interest at heart. I remain committed to these values. That is why I am today giving trustees of Chelsea’s charitable Foundation the stewardship and care of Chelsea FC. "I believe that currently they are in the best position to look after the interests of the Club, players, staff, and fans." The statement is likely a response to the pressure mounting on the UK to impose sanctions on Abramovich and freeze his UK assets following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. It is unclear if it means that Abramovich will have to sell the club: the statement does not specify the...

'Kepa deserves to play in League Cup final but I cannot get sentimental about it'

Image
"First of all, I will not tell you!" Thomas Tuchel said at a press conference when asked if Kepa Arrizabalaga or Edouard Mendy would start in the League Cup final on Sunday. "We will take the decision late. You have a reason to ask the question. The last competition was a short one. Kepa played a huge part in the Club World Cup semi-final to bring us to the final, then we took the decision for Edou coming back from the African Cup of Nations. "The very last decision we will take after training like always. There is no need to take the decision now when we have one more training. "Kepa did fantastic in the period where we had to be without Edou, so it’s an uncomfortable and comfortable situation. He absolutely deserves [to play] but I cannot get sentimental about it. I have to do what is the best solution for the team. "This position is a very sensitive position. If Kepa was a player on the field we would not have these discussions, we would just be full of...

Tottenham and Newcastle to battle over £27m rated Roma star

Image
Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are set to battle it out for the signature of Roma midfielder Jordan Veretout.  Reports from Roma Today indicate Veretout is open to leaving the club after falling down the pecking order under Jose Mourinho. After an initially bright start under the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss, Veretout then found himself relegated to the bench in an increasingly marginalised role within Mourinho’s set up, with one game this season even seeing the central midfielder deployed at left-wing. As well as the Premier League interest in him it is understood Veretout has also garnered interest from clubs within the Serie A, such as title challengers Napoli and league leaders AC Milan (once Franck Kessie leaves). Veretout is valued at £27m by transfermarkt, and Roma will demand a similar fee for him at around €25m or £21m. The 28-year-old typically favours a deep-lying central midfield position, but has the all-round qualities which enable him to play any...

Roman Abramovich's daughter speaks out against Russia's war on Ukraine despite father's alleged links to Vladimir Putin

Image
The daughter of Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, Sofia, has used her social media platform to speak against the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The 27-year-old took to Instagram on Friday to declare that the act of aggression was Vladimir Putin's — and not Russia's as a country. Of course, here's the kicker: Abramovich is believed to have close ties to Putin himself. There have already been calls in the British Parliament to ban the oligarch from entering the country and strip him of all the assets in the UK, including Chelsea. The businessman himself is yet to comment on the situation. Source: sofiaabramovich97 @ Instagram

4 players who have returned to their best since Xavi took over

Jordi Alba Since Xavi took over Jordi Alba has looked a different player despite the criticism that's come his way. British MP calls for Abramovich's UK assets to be frozen or sold

Russia has officially declared war on Ukraine and in response to that, the British government is taking some steps to punish Russian oligarchs/billionaires who have assets in the United Kingdom. Labour Member of Parliament Chris Bryant gave a speech in the House of Commons to sanction Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich. Here are the important parts of his speech: "I've got hold of a leaked document from 2019 from the Home Office, which says, in relation to Mr. Abramovich. "As part of HMGs Russia strategy, aimed at targeting illicit finance and malign activity, Abramovich remains of interest to HMG due to his links to the Russian state and his public association with corrupt activity and practices. "An example of this is Abramowich admitting in court proceedings that he paid for political influence. "Therefore HMG is focused on ensuring individuals linked to illicit finance and malign activity are unable to base themselves in the UK and will use the relevant tools at...

Liverpool, who won the competition in 2019, were forbidden to display the badges in the English top flight due to a law which bans mid-season kit changes. However, Jurgen Klopp's men still continued to wear their Club World Cup winners' badges in other competitions: the Champions League and the FA Cup. Rangnick insists Ronaldo won't be bothered by hostile Atletico Madrid reception

Image
When asked if the hostility from Atletico Madrid fans will help Cristiano Ronaldo thrive, Ralf Rangnick told MUTV: "We will see. "Again, he’s got enough experience. He’s used to this sort of hostile atmosphere in his career so it shouldn’t impress him a lot. "For us, it’s about how we perform as a team. He cannot do it on his own." The Manchester United boss added: "We have to perform on a high level as a team, like we did against Leeds, knowing the quality of Atletico is high." Ronaldo broke his goal drought against Brighton but failed to get on the scoresheet in the 4-2 win over Leeds. He's got an excellent record at the Wanda Metropolitano, however, and is expected to give Atleti a hard time. A win would give the Red Devils an upper edge in the Champions League Round of 16 second leg at Old Trafford. Source: MUTV
