Leo Messi: Real Madrid weren't the best team in this Champions League

Image
Speaking to TyC Sports about the 2021/22 Champions League campaign, Lionel Messi said: "The best team doesn't always win. "Real Madrid, without taking anything away from them, much less because they are the champions of the Champions League and are always there, they weren't the best team in this Champions League and yet they beat them all. "I know what Real Madrid are, I've lived it for many years, all my life, up close. And I knew that could happen, because out of nowhere they score a goal and it automatically changes the match." "I wanted to win it again and it annoyed me not being able to. It also makes me see that the best team does not always win the Champions League, that the Champions League is about situations. "There are specific moments, psychological moments that grab a team, where the slightest mistake leaves you out and the one who is most prepared for those situations ends up winning it or reaching the final." Real Madrid be...

Image
Tottenham have announced the transfer of Ivan Perisic. The vastly experienced Croatia international will join the Club on 1 July following the expiration of his contract at Internazionale and has agreed a deal that will run until 2024. A player with multiple winners’ medals under his belt, Ivan began his career in the youth academies of Hajduk Split and Sochaux before a short loan spell at KSV Roeselare in Belgium. In 2009, he joined Club Brugge where, in only his second season, he was the league’s top scorer and was named Belgium’s Footballer of the Year. A move to Germany followed in 2011 with Ivan winning the Bundesliga and German Cup (DFB-Pokal) in his first season at Borussia Dortmund, before adding a second DFB-Pokal and the DFL-Supercup following a move to VfL Wolfsburg in 2013. 'It just a glorified friendlies': Kevin De Bruyne downplay UEFA Nations League importance.

Image
Kevin de Bruyne is not pleased with having to play in the UEFA Nations League with Belgium after a grueling domestic season. He said: “The Nations League is unimportant in my eyes. “Just glorified friendlies after a long and tough season. I am not looking forward to it.” De Bruyne isn’t the first major footballer to complain about the Nations League, with many criticizing it’s format in the past. Kevin played 45 games for Man City last season, so it’s understandable why he’s agitated at having to play more. Belgium are set to play 4 Nations League games in June. When asked about what lies in the future for him, Frenkie de Jong said: “I prefer to stay in Barcelona, I have already said it before. “BarƧa is the club of my dreams since I was little. If other clubs call I will take the call, of course; It is something that is always done. “Of course I hear about the links to Man United, but the people in charge of the club [Barcelona] didn't tell me anything. “So then I will assume there is no agreement, and that nothing is going on. So then I won't worry about it too.” Moreover, after being asked if he has been in contact with Erik ten Hag over a move to Man United, he said: “I won't tell you this. I wouldn't tell you this if it was about another manager or club too. “I did talk with Xavi about next season, but that was just about football, about the squad and what is needed to improve.” At this point, it’s clear that Frenkie does not want to leave Barcelona and it’s the club more interested to sell him for some revenue. Barcelona manager Xavi reveal player who could compete with Busquets

Xavi has already called Ruben Neves about joining his project at Barcelona, according to Miguel Sanz (h/t Sport). However, the transfer is a bit complicated as Wolves could demand as much as €50m for his signature. It's a figure that Barca simply cannot come up with given their financial struggles. Neves registered four goals and two assists in 36 appearances this term. Source: Sport

Jordan and James Milner not getting younger: Gerrard gives Liverpool transfer advice

Image
Jordan and James Milner are not getting any younger," Steven Gerrard said, as quoted by the Metro. "They’re still top players at this level, of course, and they’ll want to go on and do more. "But for Liverpool, if you think about the next five, six, seven years, they’re going to need a midfielder, an eight, who can get goals, who can get double figures. "They are heavily reliant on the front three – or the front five if you include Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino. "But you always need one of those midfielders that’s going to get in the box and get you goals." Basically, Gerrard suggests Liverpool sign a player like he was. The problem is that this kind of player is extremely difficult to find! Liverpool are linked with a move for Aurelien Tchouameni but the Frenchman looks like a more defensive player. Jude Bellingham looks like the kind of player Stevie talks about but he has already announced he's staying at Dortmund beyond this summer. The Reds have ...

Inter Milan and Romelu Lukaku's lawyers Meet over potential summer return

Image
Romelu Lukaku is hoping to end his nightmare at Chelsea and make a swift return to Inter Milan in the summer, as per Sky Sports. The Belgian forward’s lawyers have a meeting set up with Inter Milan’s representatives to discuss a potential move. Chelsea aren’t actively looking to sell Lukaku, but could think about a move if the offer is right, as he is not a regular starter under Thomas Tuchel anymore. However, a possible transfer is complicated as the Blues had spent over £100m on him last summer and would want something similar to let him go after a year. Lukaku irked Chelsea fans last year after expressing his unhappiness at the club and stating he would like to return to Inter in an interview last year. The 29-year-old striker scored 15 goals in 44 appearances for Chelsea. Source: Sky Sports

La Liga president Javier Tebas has continued his tirade at Barcelona. In a recent interview (h/t Relevo), Tebas poured cold water on Barca's pursuit of Robert Lewandowski. "As of today, Barca cannot sign Lewandowski," Tebas said. "Barca already knows what they have to do. I don't know who or what they will sell. "They must earn more and sell assets. Their pantry needs to be filled. They have it empty while Real Madrid have it full." Barcelona have made Lewandowski their top transfer target for the coming season. However, the transfer remains a complicated one - Barca are low on funds and Bayern Munich are adamant to sell the striker. Still, Tebas is not Barca's spokesman, which begs the question. Image
Speaking to Premier League Productions, Paul Scholes said: "Edinson Cavani I think was a disgrace this year, he hardly ever played. "He pulled out of the Middlesbrough [in the FA Cup in February] game because he had to travel back from wherever he was. "Funnily enough, since that Middlesbrough game I think Manchester United have won only five out of 18 games or something. "It's been embarrassing, this manager now needs backing. Who's going to help him do that? The club upstairs is still a bit of a mess, we don't really know." Cavani was convinced to stay for one additional year last summer but everything changed following Cristiano Ronaldo's arrival on transfer deadline day. The veteran striker has hardly featured all season, frequently declaring himself not fit in the second half of the campaign in order to avoid injuries. Source: Tribuna

Roma are keen to attract Wan-Bissaka to the Italian capital next season and Manchester United value the defender at €30 million, says La Gazzetta dello Sport. Real Madrid Battle Chelsea For Chicago Fire Goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina

Image
Real Madrid are eyeing Chelsea target Chicago Fire goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina. Marca says he has an EU passport, although he is clear that his national team, despite his Polish origin, is the United States. Real Madrid's interest has been reported by Fabrizio Romano and Slonina fits the profile of the modern goalkeeper, that is to say, close to two metres tall (1.93 centimetres), powerful and possessing good ball skills. In the event that the deal is completed, his destination would be Castilla, but it is not ruled out that he could be one of the first team goalkeepers in the almost certain event of Andriy Lunin departing in search of playing time. A number of Premier League clubs have been looking at Slonina during the season, with Chelsea being the closest to signing him. However, the London club's sanctions put the brakes on the move, which has allowed Real Madrid and two other unnamed Premier League clubs to enter the equation. Source: Tribalfootball

Alongside highly sought-after RB Leipzig hotshot Christopher Nkunku, Martinez is under consideration after the club's takeover was confirmed. A move to Stamford Bridge would seemingly reunite him with ex-Inter striker partner Romelu Lukaku. However, reports from Italy claim that the Nerazzurri have made the Chelsea man - who recently split with his agent - their priority transfer target, meaning it could be a sliding doors moment as the pair swap employers. 'They Will Lose A Final Someday': Klopp Rubbish Madrid's Finals Mystique

Image
Real Madrid have not lost a single Champions League final in their history, winning 14 titles. It has prompted some to believe in a kind of Madrid black magic in the competition's finals. Thibaut Courtois said before the game that Madrid 'don't play finals, they win them' but Jurgen Klopp does not believe in such supernatural forces. "This team of Real Madrid is incredibly experienced, they have the most experienced manager in European football, now the most successful as well," the Liverpool manager said, referring to Ancelotti winning his fourth Champions League title. "In a football game, in a close football game and even when we had a lot more shots than Madrid, it is about scoring, easy. "You can’t say no to Real Madrid, it is impossible," Ancelotti said about his departure. "Everton weren’t that happy of course. "I think they are a bit happier now because we have won tonight." Jurrien Timber's Agents Spotted At Manchester United's London Offices

Image
Man United have been linked to Ajax defender Jurrien Timber for the past few weeks and months. He was Ten Hag's player at the club and United's dire need to bolster the defence has led to claims that Timber could be the right fit. As per De Telegraaf, his representative from the Forza Sports Group was spotted at 5 Stratton Street in the Mayfair district of London, where Manchester United's international office operates. Manchester Untied are reportedly very interested in signing the player and this could be an indication of talks moving forward. Timber has been said to be one of Ten Hag's favourite players at Ajax and he has been a reliable asset throughout the past two seasons. His awareness and composure on the ball has made him one of the most prominent members of Ten Hag's Ajax during their back-to-back Eredivisie titles. Source:Tribuna.com

Crystal Palace are interested in re-signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Man United. As per reports from The Athletic, United may be open to letting him go as well. The United right-back has had a mixed bag of performances in the Red shirt. In his first season, he received a lot of praise for his tackling and was seen as a defensively resolute full-back. As things worsened at the club overall, there have been question marks about his offensive output. The past season was probably the worst for Wan-Bissaka as he struggled to lock down a starting spot due to Dalot's rise in stock. Source: The Athletic

Barcelona ‘Can't Register’ Kessie Or Christensen Due To Financial Issues

Image
Barcelona are still unable to register Franck Kessie or Andreas Christensen into their squad because of the ongoing financial problems, claims Sport. The Blaugrana have complete agreement with both players to join them as free agents, but they haven’t been officially announced yet. That is mostly because of the fact that neither can be registered into the first-team squad due to the wage bill being way overboard. Similarly, Barca might’ve struck an agreement with Robert Lewandowski over a summer move – but they lack the funds to pay a fee to Bayern Munich for his services or even pay him his salary. The management are still looking for ways to fix the financial situation and needs to sell some players in the summer to make way for new signings. Source: Tribuna.com

Bayern CEO Kahn Slams Lewandowski: "Statements Like That Don't Get You Anywhere"

Image
Robert Lewandowski’s comments on Monday, in which he claimed his time at Bayern Munich is over, have not gone down well with the club. After that, Bayern’s CEO Oliver Kahn reacted to it and told Sport1: “Lewandowski? I can’t tell you why Robert chose this path. Statements like that don’t get you anywhere. Robert became a world footballer here twice the time. “I think he should know what he has at Bayern. Appreciation is not a one-way street.” It’s quite clear that Bayern is still not willing to let go of their star striker, despite him making it publicly clear that he wants to leave. Barcelona has even reportedly reached a verbal agreement to sign Lewandowski next season, but will now find it extremely hard to convince Bayern to sell him in the summer. Source: Tribuna.com
