Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani has apologised for his deleted Instagram post which contained a Spanish phrase that has been deemed offensive. The Uruguayan is set to be the subject of an investigation by the Football Association for the message, which was posted after he scored in United’s 3-2 comeback win at Southampton on Sunday. In a statement, Cavani said: “The message I posted after the game on Sunday was intended as an affectionate greeting to a friend, thanking him for his congratulations after the game. The former Monaco man missed yesterday’s win at Southampton due to falling ill on Saturday and was forced to stay in the hotel during the match. Boss Ole Gunnar Solskaer said yesterday: “Anthony had to stay in the hotel, he got ill overnight and he is down here still.” And despite reporting at Carrington on Monday morning as preparations begin for Wednesday’s clash with Paris Saint-Germain, Martial was quickly on his way home again. Messi celebrated his goal against Osasuna, by taking off Barcelona’s blue-and-burgundy strip to reveal the red-and-black of Newell’s. Maradona, who passed away last week at the age of 60, played for Newell’s at the end of his glittering career. Messi also wore the same shirt at the start of his career, making it a fitting tribute. United infamously signed Fangzhuo from Chinese club Dalian Shide in 2004 for an initial fee of £500,000, which could have risen to £3.5million, depending on appearances. But the forward only played three matches and failed to score a goal before his contract was terminated four years after moving to England. Diego Maradona ‘s nurse has reportedly admitted that she lied about giving the football legend a check-up on the day he died. A team of nurses had been taking care of the football legend after he had an operation earlier this month for a blood clot on his brain. A nurse working with Maradona told investigators she lied about entering his bedroom the morning he died, reports the Mirror. Maradona died, aged 60, at his home near Buenos Aires, on Wednesday morning.
