Ronaldinho denies crypto scam in Brazil congressional hearing

Image
Retired football great Ronaldinho denied involvement in an alleged cryptocurrency pyramid scheme bearing his name in testimony Thursday before a Brazilian congressional committee. The ex-Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star, who won the 2002 World Cup with Brazil, told lawmakers his name and image had been used without his consent by 18K Ronaldinho, a firm accused of defrauding investors with false promises of returns of up to 400 percent. "It is not true I am the founder and controlling partner of 18K Ronaldinho," the 43-year-old former player told the lower-house committee investigating the alleged scam. Wearing dark glasses and a black beret, he said he had signed a marketing contract in 2016 with a US company called 18K Watches. Unbeknownst to him, images taken for that campaign were then used to market 18K Ronaldinho, he said. He told lawmakers he had learned his name was being used by the company but did not take legal action, saying he himself was a victim of the a...

Every player 'tipped to move' on transfer deadline day, a lot of deals set to be done

Image
Another transfer deadline day is upon us and a slew of deals are set to be completed by some of the biggest clubs. The likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool are expected to be busy before the 11pm deadline as they look to further strengthen their squads for the long season ahead. Clubs in the Saudi Pro League likely won't be scrambling to get deals over the line as their deadline, much to Jurgen Klopp's frustration, is September 20. But there should be plenty going on in Europe and with Sky Bet, a number of players are actually odds on to move onto pastures new before the window slams shut. Brennan Johnson is 4/9 to move to Spurs on deadline day, having been heavily linked with Chelsea. The Wales international is rated at around £50 million by Nottingham Forest, who look to have earmarked Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi as their Johnson replacement. He is 8/13 to sign for Steve Cooper's side. Elsewhere, Ryan Gravenberch is set to sign for Liverpool after th...

Folarin Balogun speaks on Arsenal 'regrets' - striker's sell-on clause revealed

Image
Folarin Balogun says he has no regrets leaving Arsenal for AS Monaco. “For me, I don’t have any regrets," the 22-year-old said. "Football is a competitive sport, and of course, the manager sometimes makes choices: sometimes there are opportunities for some players, and sometimes it’s a bit difficult. "I wanted to play, I wanted to prove to people that I can compete at this level. I think the decision was natural, but I wouldn’t say there is any regret. "As a young player, I want to play. I want to prove what I’m capable of. What’s done is done. You don’t always get the opportunity. Sometimes that opens door to new opportunities. "I am happy with the way things turned out. I wish Arsenal all the best for the season. We’re looking to achieve great things at Monaco this season.” According to reports, Arsenal have a 17.5% clause in Balogun’s Monaco deal. The Gunners have profited from a few sell-on clauses lately, with Konstantinos Mavropanos (10%) and Matteo Guend...

Real Madrid official reveals if there will be any signings on transfer deadline day

Image
"We are satisfied. The squad is complete," Real Madrid's Director of Institutional Relations, Emilio Butragueno, has told the media. Everything indicates that there will be no surprise signings in the last 24 hours of the summer transfer window. On Wednesday, there was a rumour saying that Real Madrid would sign Kylian Mbappe on the transfer deadline day. However, this seems nothing but speculation now. The only two deals left are Reinier's loan move to Frosinone and Alvaro Odriozola's exit. The latter is not guaranteed to happen. The transfer window will close on September 2, 00:00 CET.

Crystal Palace sign England goalkeeper Henderson from Manchester United

Image
Crystal Palace have signed England goalkeeper Dean Henderson from Premier League rivals Manchester United, the London club announced Thursday. The 26-year-old has signed a five-year contract. No fee has been disclosed for his move to Selhurst Park, but British media reports estimated the deal at some £15 million ($19 million, 17.5 million euros) with a potential further £5 million in add-ons. Henderson arrived at Old Trafford as a 14-year-old and then starred during a loan spell with Sheffield United, helping the Blades gain promotion to the Premier League during the 2018/19 season. He spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest. In total, Henderson made 29 appearances for Manchester United in all competitions and he was also a member of the England Under-20 World Cup winning squad in June 2017. His exit from Old Trafford could pave the way for Fenerbahce goalkeeper Altay Bayindir to join Manchester United as back-up to Andre Onana. Henderson told the Palace website: "I'm...

Image
England manager Sarina Wiegman greets UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin after receiving the award for women's coach of the year  England manager Sarina Wiegman on Thursday dedicated her UEFA coach of the year prize to the Spain women's team amid the sexism scandal engulfing Spanish Football Federation president Luis Rubiales. "We all know the issues around the Spanish team, and that really hurts me as a coach, as a mother of two daughters, as a wife," Wiegman said after collecting her award at a ceremony in Monaco. "There is still a long way to go in women's football and in society, and I would like to dedicate this award to the Spanish team, who played such great football in the World Cup. "This team deserves to be celebrated and deserves to be listened to." Spain's Women's World Cup triumph in Sydney earlier this month, when they beat Wiegman's England in the final, has been overshadowed by Rubiales's forced kiss on the lips of m...

Image
Edu Gasper has hinted that Arsenal's incoming transfers may be over. The Brazilian, however, admitted that the club is looking to offload some players.  “As everyone saw, we made a strong strategy to be very proactive at the beginning of the transfer window & I think we did it," he said.  "Now we are talking about trying to balance the squad a little bit better. We keep talking to a few clubs. Wolves manager O'Neil confirms Nunes Man City switch

Image
Wolves manager Gary O'Neil confirmed on Thursday that Portugal midfielder Matheus Nunes is on his way to Manchester City for a reported fee of £53 million ($67 million). The Premier League champions had a previous bid for Nunes rejected, with the 25-year-old subsequently choosing not to train with Wolves in a bid to force through a move in the final days of the transfer window. Speaking earlier this week, O'Neil said he was unaware of any improved bid from City and expected the player to remain at the club beyond Friday's transfer deadline. But the clubs have come to an agreement which involved a bigger fee. "The situation is resolved, he is signing for Manchester City," said O'Neil. "If he had re-joined the group I would have told him what I felt. "When I dealt with him before, he worked hard and did what he could for the club. Then a big club came calling and players want to play for Manchester City. We move on." O'Neil was asked what ha...

Image
Cristiano Ronaldo was asked if he has ever Googled himself and produced a priceless response. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner is not shy of confidence in his abilities and appearance and was quizzed on just how much interest he takes in himself. The burning question came up through cryptocurrency firm Binance, who brought in a a professional polygraph examiner for a sit-down 'Lie Detector' interview with Ronaldo. It would therefore be known if the Al Nassr star was not telling the truth. Andy Ansah, the former footballer who coined the classic 'Unbelievable tekkers' catchphrase on Wayne Rooney's Street Striker. The full video has not yet gone live but multiple teasers from the clip have been shared online. But he happily admitted to searching his own name, stating: "So many times" - before it ...

There were some controversial decisions within the squad as the likes of Raheem Sterling and James Ward Prowse were missing. He continued: “He was not available for the last two and that's given other people the opportunity to play well and establish themselves.” “It is a difficult call and Raheem is not particularly happy about it but I understand that.” Speaking about Phil...

Man United 'set to complete' signing of Sergio Reguilon on loan from Tottenham

Image
Manchester United are 'set to complete' the loan signing Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham, according to David Ornstein. Erik ten Hag is on the hunt for a left-back following the injury to Luke Shaw, who suffered a muscular injury in training after his side's defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. His injury is worse than feared as he faces a 'number of weeks' on the sidelines in a big blow to Ten Hag. As a result, a host of left-backs have been linked with a move to Old Trafford, including Brentford's Rico Henry and Lyon Nicolas Tagliafico. Not to mention Marc Cucurella, who played in Chelsea's Carabao Cup clash against AFC Wimbledon on Wednesday. According to Ornstein, his appearance at Stamford Bridge in the competition has 'complicated' the situation. Ten Hag is now pushing move for Spurs' Reguilon, who spent last season on loan at Atletico Madrid. According to a recent update from Ornstein on The Athletic , the defender has been given permi...

My lips are sealed: Man City's Haaland tapes mouth shut when he sleeps

Image

The Manchester City man became the first-sponsored footballer to sign for KSI and Logan Paul's Prime. And he joined the American's podcast 'Impaulsive' - alongside KSI, who was trolled by the superstar forward over his upcoming fight with Tommy Fury. The Norwegian phenom also spoke about his sleep pattern, bizarrely revealing that he sleeps with his mouth taped shut. Speaking to Paul and KSI, he said: "I think sleep is the most important thing in the world. To sleep good, simple kind of things like blue-blocking glasses, shutting out all the signals in the bedroom, I think is really important. "You should try and tape your mouth. I sleep with it. Doing a lot of things is not good but doing small things every single day for a longer period really pays off." The reason behind his strange practice is to maximise breathing through the nostrils and ...

Toni Kroos slams Saudi Pro League again as Cristiano Ronaldo claim made

Image
Toni Kroos has doubled down on his damning view of players who have moved to the Saudi Pro League, claiming the decision goes "against football". A number of high-profile players have moved to Saudi Arabia, including Kroos former Real Madrid teammates Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema. Stars like Neymar, N'Golo Kante, Ruben Neves, Riyad Mahrez, Roberto Firmino, Jordan Henderson Kalidou Koulibaly, Allan Saint-Maximin and Aymeric Laporte are now also plying their trade in the country after making eye-watering transfers. And recently, Celta Vigo and Spain starlet Gabri Veiga joined the Saudi side Al Ahli after they activated his €40 million release clause. Napoli, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United were all linked with Veiga, who scored 11 goals in La Liga last term. But he will now play in the SPL at just 21 and Kroos did not hold back, labelling the move "embarrassing" and commenting on Fabrizio Romano's Instagram post. And the German has f...

Ansu Fati set to earn almost TWICE as much as any other player at Brighton

Image
Ansu Fati is reportedly set to earn almost TWICE as much as any other player at Brighton ahead of his proposed loan move from Barcelona. The 20-year-old, who famously took Lionel Messi's iconic No.10 shirt following his departure, has fallen down the pecking order at Barca and is deemed surplus to requirements by Xavi. Tottenham had been linked with the star winger, but Brighton have stolen a march on their Premier League counterparts as they close in on the signing ahead of the transfer deadline. He's set to join the Seagulls on a season-long loan, having been impressed by Roberto De Zerbi. And according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano , Brighton will pay 80 per cent of Fati's wage this season. It has previously been reported that he earns around £200,000-a-week at Barca. So, that means Brighton will pay him around £160,000-per-week, which is almost twice as much as any other player at the club. Per Spotrac , Adam Lallana is the club's current highest earner. He...

Jude Bellingham claims award that no other English player has ever managed to win

Image
In his first month as a Real Madrid player, Jude Bellingham has become the first Englishman to win La Liga's Player of the Month award. The 20-year-old midfielder, who joined Los Blancos from Borussia Dortmund this summer for an initial £88.5 million, marked his competitive debut for the club with a goal against Athletic Bilbao. A week later and Carlo Ancelotti's side made it two wins from two as the in-form Bellingham notched a brace and an assist in a far-from-convincing 3-1 win over Almeria. It's fair to say the Birmingham youth product has stepped up to the plate in Madrid and on Friday, he dragged his teammates through a difficult game against Celta Vigo with an 81st minute winner. As a result of his impressive form, Bellingham has claimed an award neither David Beckham or Michael Owen managed to win during their time in Spain. In fact, Bellingham is also the first player in Real Madrid history to win La Liga's POTM award in his first month at the club. The midf...

Eddie Nketiah gets first England call-up - Southgate gives three reasons for his selection.

Image
Eddie Nketiah has received his first call-up to the England national team for the upcoming international break. With two goals in Arsenal's opening three games, and having won the penalty that Martin Odegaard scored against Crystal Palace, Eddie is in fine form at the start of the 2023/24 campaign. Aaron Ramsdale, Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka have also all been named in Gareth Southgate’s squad. England travel to Wroclaw in Poland to face Ukraine in UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifying Group C on Saturday, 9 September. Gareth Southgate said: “It’s an area that we would like to have a look at him. He’s a young player with really good pedigree, very good finisher & it’s good for him to have some time with us. He’s the record goalscorer with the U21s.”

Man United target another Spanish left-back to replace Luke Shaw

Image
Manchester United are seriously considering Tottenham Hotspur's Sergio Reguilon as their new left-back. United had submitted a proposal to sign Marc Cucurella but after the Spaniard played for Chelsea in the Carabao Cup win against AFC Wimbledon on Wednesday night, they are now actively exploring a move for Reguilon. Cucurella remains United's first choice. However, Reguilon is considered as his backup should the deal fall through. Reguilon spent last season on loan at Atletico Madrid, where he made 12 appearances. He is yet to make an appearance for Spurs this season. United are searching for a left-back after an injury to Luke Shaw. Tyrell Malacia is also sidelined leaving 20-year-old Alvaro Fernandez as United’s only recognised player for the position. Diogo Dalot operated at left-back for United's victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Is Mason Greenwood's England future over? Gareth Southgate answers

Image
Gareth Southgate says Mason Greenwood isn't currently a consideration for England because he isn't playing football, suggesting that the youngster could still play for his country. "It's clearly a very complex case and at the moment, he isn't playing football, so it's not a consideration for us," Southgate said. "It's hypothetical [whether he could be involved with England in the future]. I think it's a topic that whatever I say, I could give you a nuanced answer, but it will be used in a less nuanced fashion, frankly." Man United concluded their six-and-a-half month investigation into Greenwood earlier this month and decided it would be most appropriate for him to recommence his career away from Old Trafford. Greenwood has just one appearance for the Three Lions, in a 1–0 away win over Iceland in a 2020–21 UEFA Nations League A match, coming on as a 78th-minute substitute. The 21-year-old and Phil Foden were withdrawn from the England sq...

'It's tough for him': Mikel Arteta admits Kai Havertz is missing his goalscoring touch

Image
Speaking to the reporters in the aftermath of the Fulham game, Mikel Arteta said: "I think Kai Havertz will win the fans over, yes. "I think he’s done already really good things [on Saturday]. It was tough for him in certain moments, he got in great areas again and the ball didn't arrive. "He's had a lot of situations, he should have scored already a lot of goals this season, and that's the thing that is missing there." Arteta tinkered with his tactics over the summer, signing Havertz from Chelsea for £65 million to play in the False 9 role in the revamped Arsenal formation. However, the German has failed to find the net in the first three games of the new Premier League campaign, leading the fans to call on him to be dropped.

Carlo Ancelotti believes Real Madrid are 'weaker' now compared to last season

Image
Carlo Ancelotti firmly believes that the squad he has right now is weaker than the one he had last season, per Jorge Picon of Relevo. Real Madrid allowed key players like their captain Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio to leave on a free transfer while fringe players like Eden Hazard and Mariano Diaz also left for free. Los Blancos responded by signing Jude Bellingham who has netted four goals in three games and was named La Liga's best player in August. Others like Arda Guler and Joselu also arrived to boost the attack. However, there's apprehension around the squad as Madrid did not sign a potent striker with the charisma and leadership ability of Benzema. Real Madrid did not make an attempt to sign Harry Kane, who eventually went to Bayern Munich and has been scoring goals for fun since. Los Blancos are said to be holding out for Kylian Mbappe, but it's almost taken for granted that the Frenchman won't arrive this summer. To compound the challenge, Vinicus Jr picked up...

Omar Mendoza from Mexican football club Queretaro was shown a red card for putting his fingers up the opponent's ass. The 'fouled' player is Juan Zapata from Atlas. "He gave him the scratch and sniff" "He gave him the handsaw" "He did the Isla [perhaps a reference to Chile footballer Gonzalo Jara fouling Edinson Cavani in a similar way a few years ago]" "He was checking his oil" Atlas went on to win the game 2-1 even though they conceded the equaliser while playing with one man up.

Gavi's registration case still in court — he could become a free agent next month

Image
The case surrounding Gavi's new contract is still in court as La Liga are appealing an earlier verdict allowing Barcelona to register the player based on a deal he signed on June 30. According to Mundo Deportivo, if the judge decides to rule in favour of La Liga, Gavi's contract will be rescinded and the player will have to leave Barca as a free agent in September. Barca's priority right now is to secure the future of the talented midfielder by getting the FFP margin required to register his contract which runs until 2026. The departure of players like Clement Lenglet and Ansu Fati will help, but president Joan Laporta is also prepared to table a €20m back guarantee from his own assets. Barcelona also have to register the contracts of players like Inaki Pena and Inigo Martinez which are still pending.

Pochettino takes brutal dig at Spurs after his former side gets knocked out of Carabao Cup

Image

Poch's former side Tottenham weren't able to achieve the same outcome as they got knocked out by Fulham on penalties. 'I'm sad': Real Madrid bound striker Endrick breaks silence on lack of playing time at Palmeiras

Image
Endrick has finally voiced his dissatisfaction at his lack of playing time at Palmeiras under coach Abel Ferreira following their qualification to the Copa Libertadores semi-final. "I'm thanking God, doing my part. I don't have anxiety, I'm not angry for not being playing. I had a conversation with Abel. He calmed me down. I don't have anxiety about playing or not playing. He says that the important thing is to work," Endrick said after the game "It's in God's hands. I don't have time to complain about life, I'm just grateful for my time on earth. "I'm doing what I like, which is playing soccer. I'm training, looking for my space. I'm a little sad for not being playing but I have to control that a little. "I just thank God because he is the one who is with me every day, every night. If I could, I would ask the press not to may be talking, but it's what we players live. Life outside is crucifying. Arsenal need to sort themselves out': Gary Neville warns Gunners ahead of Man United clash

Image
Speaking on Sky Sports, Gary Neville said: "Balance in a team is very important. Innovation is fantastic but sometimes something that started as a good idea evolves into something which doesn't work. "I feel there is that with Arsenal. They will go back to the basics of 4-3-3. Manchester United are decent on the counter-attack but it is a big test for them. Their performances so far this season have been below par. "If you're below par at the Emirates you will get beaten. Man United have to raise their game, but Arsenal need to sort themselves out too. I'd expect next week Mikel Arteta is going to end that experiment and go with a solid back four." Arsenal will be looking to redeem themselves after the 2–2 draw against Fulham when they host Man United in the Premier League on Sunday, September 3. With Manchester City winning all of their three games so far, the Gunners can't really afford to drop points if they are to challenge Pep Guardiola's si...

We were competitive and we deserve to be in the next round. "There were many players who made their debut here at Stamford Bridge. There are many positive things. "We have a squad and there were players resting on the bench if we needed. They were fresh to go into the game and in the end, help the team achieve what we wanted. "It is always difficult to play against a team like this. That is the beauty of the cups. They are in League Two with motivation and desire." Chelsea had to come from behind to defeat Wimbledon after conceding an early penalty. The Blues won thanks to Noni Madueke's spot-kick and Enzo Fernandez's goal after he came on as a sub.
