Sportsmail previously revealed that Suarez would join Gremio in a two-year deal, opting for them instead of Mexico's Cruz Aazul. He will join a Gremio side where former Liverpool star Lucas Leiva also played, befo...

"They Can Go All The Way": Arsene Wenger Backs Arsenal To Win Premier League

Image
In an interview with Norwegian channel TV2, Arsenal Wenger has backed Arsenal to make it a proper title race in the Premier League this season, "I think they have all the necessary ingredients, both tactically and mentally," the legendary Arsenal boss said. "They can go all the way. Because, as you can see, they create so many chances. I don't really see any weaknesses." Last season, Arsenal finished outside of the top four and 24 points behind Man City. At this moment, the Gunners top the league table with a five-point lead over Pep Guardiola's side which is remarkable progress. Still, with over half of the games yet left to play in the Premier League, physical and mental pressure will mount on the young team that has never been in a title race before - and this will be the hardest challenge. "I Was A Little Bit Late": Rashford Clears Up Reason Why He Was Benched vs Wolves

Image
Speaking to BT Sport after the Wolves win, Marcus Rashford admitted that Erik ten Hag benched him for being late to a team meeting. "I was a little bit late for the meeting. I slept in, I overslept," the forward said. He added: "It's the team rules. It's a mistake that can happen. Obviously disappointed not to play but I understand the decision." Rashford remained on the bench for the first half but was introduced after the break and ended up scoring Man United's only goal in the 1-0 win. Source: Tribuna

Caught On Camera: Ten Hag And Rashford Share Hug After Wolves Game

Image
Before the Wolves game, Erik ten Hag claimed that he decided to bench Marcus Rashford due to an 'internal disciplinary'. Evidently, the issue was not serious, as Rashford appeared on the pitch after the first 45 minutes. It turned out to be the right decision by the boss as the 25-year-old scored the game's only goal. After the game, the pair made it clear that there were no bad feelings between them as they pointedly shared a hug in front of the camera. Rashford has scored in each game since the World Cup break. Hopefully, Ten Hag won't have to bench him anymore. Source: Tribuna

'It's Unfair And Untrue': Tebas Responds To Vinicius Jr La Liga Racism Claim

Image
"At La Liga, we have been fighting RACISM for years. It is very unfortunate, unfair and not true to say that," La Liga president Javier Tebas has tweeted. "La Liga does nothing against racism? Find out more. We are at your disposal so that ALTOGETHER, we can go in the same direction," he added. Then comes La Liga's official statement describing all the latest racial abuse incidents and how the league reacted to them. In some cases, racism was denounced, in some more serious measures were taken – like identifying the offender and punishing them. Still, it doesn't seem to be enough as crowds of people rooting for different teams keep attending La Liga matches and abusing players. Source: Tribuna

AC Milan Interested In Signing Chelsea's Senegalese GK Edouard Mendy

Image
AC Milan are interested in signing Edouard Mendy from Chelsea, according to Gianluca Di Marzio. The deal being proposed to Chelsea is a short one which means the probability of it happening is low. But Milan have declared their interest. Milan's first-choice goalie Mike Maignan has been struggling with injuries and Mendy is considered a quality replacement. The Senegalese shot-stopper has lost his place at Chelsea to Kepa and is currently sidelined with a slight injury. With Gabriel Slonina set to arrive in January, Mendy's role at Chelsea could further diminish. Source: Tribuna

"If I'm Harry Maguire, I'm Looking For A New Club Right Now": Rio Ferdinand

Image
Harry Maguire was once again on the bench for Man United, as Erik ten Hag preferred Luke Shaw to him at centre-back. According to Rio Ferdinand, this should spell the end of Maguire's time at Old Trafford. "It raised eyebrows when you saw Lindelof and Maguire on the bench - it shows what Ten Hag thinks of those two guys!" Rio said on BT Sport. "If I'm Harry Maguire, I'm looking for a new club right now. He's faultless for England. At Man United, it hasn't worked out for him. "This new manager is showing him he's not going to be one of the top two centre-backs. I'd be telling my agent to go and find me a new club where I can play regularly and enjoy my football." It was reported that Maguire was not 100 per cent fit due to a virus he contracted right after the World Cup. Still, it has been clear for months that Ten Hag prefers other options at centre-back. Lisandro Martinez is one of them and will be ahead of Maguire in the pecking or...

'This Was Our Fault': Xavi Explains Why Barca Dropped Points Against Espanyol

Image
"At some point [during the Espanyol game], we slowed down. The tie is our fault, we committed errors. We had to be clinical. When you forgive the opposition, these things can happen to you," Xavi told the media after the Espanyol draw. Barcelona completely dominated the play against Espanyol. However, the players did not play intense football all the time, sometimes vividly slowing the game tempo a lot. This was not the first time Barca failed to kill the game off under Xavi. This is something Blaugrana should definitely work on in the future. Source: Tribuna

Xavi: 'The Referee Completely Lost Control Of The Game'

Image
"Today, Mateu [Lahoz] lost control of the game and I have told him so," Xavi said during his post-match press conference after the Espanyol draw. "He usually has a low heart rate in such situations, but today it got out of control. I don't blame him for anything anyway," the Barca boss added. Also during the presser, Xavi stated that only Blaugrana were to blame for the defeat despite Lahoz's controversial refereeing. Mateu Lahoz showed 15 yellow cards during the game which is close to his personal record of 16 yellows shown in the famous World Cup clash between the Netherlands and Argentina. He has also broken the La Liga record in this respect. Source: Tribuna

"La Liga Keep Doing Nothing": Vinicius Jr Slams League For Lack Of Action Against Racism

Image
"Racists keep going to stadiums to watch the biggest club in the world [Real Madrid] up close and La Liga keep doing nothing," Vinicius Junior wrote on Instagram. "I will continue to hold my head high & celebrate my & Madrid’s victories. In the end it is MY fault," the Brazilian added. The Brazilian was racially abused by Real Valladolid fans as he was leaving the pitch. Vinicius has spoken out against racism earlier this season after suffering from Atletico Madrid fans' abuse. How Many More Trophies Leo Messi Needs To Surpass Dani Alves As Most Decorated Player Of All Time

Image
Lionel Messi is closer than ever to becoming the most decorated player in the history of football after winning the World Cup. Dani Alves currently holds that title with 43 trophies to his name, but Messi is within touching distance with 42 trophies. Here's how both players compare: However, if we take out the Finalissima for Messi, which is still a debatable trophy, Alves will be ahead of Leo by two titles. Thus, Messi would become the undisputed most-decorated footballer in history if he wins three more titles. Given that Messi is still playing active football for PSG you wouldn't put it past him to overtake Alves as early as the end of this season. Source: Tribuna

Everton's Demarai Gray Scores Stunner To Shock Manchester City

Image
Everton winger Demarai Gray scored a stunning goal to pull his side level against Manchester City. Heading into the match, City were overwhelming favourites as Frank Lampard’s Everton side have been struggling to get wins on the board. City went in front after 24 minutes thanks to Erling Haaland, who has scored his 21st goal of the season as Pep Guardiola’s side went into half time with a 1-0 lead. In the second half, Everton stunned the home side as their first effort of the match found the back of the net. Gray took the ball and drove towards the City back line with intent and force. The winger then cut inside on his right foot and tucked his shot into the top right corner. City goalkeeper Ederson can only watch as the ball arrowed into the back of his net. A truly stunning goal to bring the Toffees level. Fans were quick to react to Gray’s fine effort. One said: “What a goal that was by Demarai Gray, stunning stunning finish.” Another commented: “That goal encapsulates Demarai Gray’...

Lahoz Overturns Decision To Show Red Card To Espanyol Player Despite Clear Foul

Image
According to Mateu Lahoz, this foul was NOT enough for him to show the second yellow card to Espanyol defender Leandro Cabrera. The players did not compete for the ball, yet Cabrera aggressively played against Robert Lewandowski, pressing the Pole's head with his foot. Minutes after giving the second yellow, Lahoz went to watch the replay and shockingly overturned the initial decision. Source: Tribuna

“Like Entering A Cheat Code” – Twitter Explodes As Haaland Continues Goalscoring Form

Image
Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has unsurprisingly continued his scoring streak by opening the scoring against Everton on the 31 of December. Haaland, 22, headed into the game with an astounding record of 26 goals in just 20 appearances across competitions. However, it surprises nobody to hear that the irrepressible Norweigan has yet again bagged in City’s clash with Everton. He scored a first half goal in the 24th minute after Mahrez turned Everton defender inside out before squaring the ball to Halaand who finished it off clinically . It takes his tally to 27 goals in his very first 21 appearances for Manchester City since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in the summer. The dominant forward has scored 21 goals in 15 league games. He has already equaled or exceeded the Golden Boot tally in five Premier League seasons. However, all of the plaudits are only going one way, and that is toward City’s number nine, who continues to wow fans. Here are some reactions from supporters on T...

French Star Kylian Mbappe Ready To Accept A Pay Cut To Force A Move Away From PSG

Image
Kylian Mbappe and Paris Saint-Germain are about to part ways less than a year after the French forward penned a lucrative three-year deal with the Ligue 1 champions.  The 24-year-old is seemingly unhappy with the PSG hierarchy for unkept promises after he was persuaded to reject a bid from Real Madrid to stay in Paris.  According to Sportskeeda, Mbappe is now decided he wants to leave PSG at the end of the season and is willing to accept a pay cut to force the move.  The 2022 World Cup golden boot winner is also looking to grow as a professional elsewhere as the Frenchman believes he's achieved everything at the Ligue 1 club.  Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing the former Monaco forward again despite Mbappe’s earlier rejection and are willing to pay PSG’s huge asking price.  Mbappe caved under person pressure Meanwhile, former Real Madrid star, Jese RodrĆguez Ruiz has revealed that Kylian Mbappe was pressured into re-signing for PSG this summer, Gi...

The list includes such football legends as Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Zinedine Zidane, Paolo Rossi, Gerd Muller, Franz Beckenbauer and Sir Bobby Charlton. The number of Ballon d'Ors won by Messi really makes him stand out even on this 'elite' list, though. Also, he won more Champions League trophies than each of these legends. Source: Tribuna

“Pep Needs To Admit He Made A Mistake”, “Abysmal” – Fans Reacts as Jack Grealish Gives Terrible Performance

Image
Manchester City fans on Twitter were enraged by Jack Grealish’s mediocre performance in the first half of the Premier League clash against Aston Villa. Pep Guardiola’s side are currently leading by a scoreline of 3-0 after an injury-time goal by Rodri and two more by Erling Haaland. Grealish missed a gilt-edged opportunity after the half-hour mark when he sent his diving effort wide. The goal was gaping at its mercy. However, the former Aston Villa man missed the chance to open the scoring. Fans pointed out that they hoped Grealish, a great prospect at Villa, would blossom further under the tutelage of a world-class manager like Pep Guardiola, which hasn’t been the case. Grealish has scored only once in 17 games this campaign. Since his £100 million switch to Manchester City, he has managed seven goals and provided four assists in 56 games. Fans believe Grealish’s style doesn’t suit Guardiola’s mold of play. The Spaniard likes his team to keep the ball and rotate it around the field. G...

"In My 25 Years At Barca" - Xavi Hail Dembele As The Best Winger In Barcelona

Image
One of Xavi's quotes from the latest documentary called A New Era has gone viral. "In my 25 years at Barca, I didn't see such natural wingers like Ousmane [Dembele]. I always tell him: 'Ousmane, if I play a wing-back, I am f**ked.'" People may wonder how come Xavi rates Dembele above players like Neymar and Ronaldinho, but the truth is that we can't really call them born wingers. Unlike Dembele, who is mostly about running forward and creating chances from crosses, the two Brazilians are more about cutting inside and creating danger through passing or take-ons. If we take a look at what players have played for Barca for the past few decades, we'll see that there've been few talented natural wingers – and Dembele is quite possibly the best of all like Xavi says. Besides, let's not forget how strongly Xavi values Dembele. The Frenchman is definitely one of the fundamental players for his project. Source: Tribuna

In light of the inevitable move, Cristiano Ronaldo's old comments have resurfaced. In an interview with ITV's Jonathan Ross in 2015, Ronaldo claimed that he wanted to play six or seven more seasons at the top level. The Portuguese, however, added that he didn't see himself playing in leagues like the MLS or the Qatari league. Top players across Europe, like Andrea Pirlo, Frank Lampard, David Villa, and more used to play in teams from the USA and Asian leagues at that point in time. Ronaldo said: “That does not mean it’s bad play in ...

"CR7 Is Finished": Fans Troll Cristiano Ronaldo After The Ex United Star Joined Al Nassr

Image
A section of football fans believe Cristiano Ronaldo's glittering career is fast heading to a ditch.  The homogenous statement stems from Ronaldo's move to Saudi Professional League side Al Nassr.  Ronaldo inked a mouthwatering two-year deal with the nine-time Saudi champions following his acrimonious exit from Manchester United in November.  Despite the lucrative nature of the 37-year-old's deal believed to be worth over 200 million euros, a section of football fans, predominantly United fans, are unhappy with the move.  According to them the Portuguese star's switch to the Gulf region is a signal of his end times as a footballer, per Daily Mail.  A devout Manchester United fan, @markgoldbridge tweeted:  "Ronaldo forcing his way out of United to sign for Al Nassr is just very very sad. Clearly thought he'd get a decent club elsewhere and has ended up accepting he's finished."  @Desmund_Oris made a mockery of Ronaldo's move to Al Nassr with a Messi...

'At Times We Were Very Poor': Van Dijk Reacts To Leicester Win

Image
"At times we were very poor today. But it is good to get the three points," Virgil van Dijk told Sky Sports after the Leicester win. "It sounds like a cliche, but it’s very important to win these type of games. We did, so that’s the positive about tonight. So we have to recover, improve, and be ready for Brentford. "It wasn’t good enough today, and we all know that. There are plenty of things we have to improve. They have quality up front, speed, and guys who can play balls in behind. "A couple of times it was dangerous. A couple of times offside. That was their gameplan. Job done, let’s put it that way. "At times today maybe we were a little too quick. We lost the balls in difficult situations and were more open. We have to take the three points, be confident, and move on to the next one." Liverpool managed to get three points from the Leicester game even though they did not score a single goal. Wout Faes came to the rescue: the Foxes' centre-bac...

Controversial Argentina Goalie Back With Club After World Cup Heroics

Emiliano Martinez is back with Aston Villa, more than 10 days after winning the World Cup with Argentina.  The goalie, like his counterpart Lionel Messi, had extended time off club duty for his role in the historic triumph for La Albiceleste.  Since his heroics and subsequent World Cup win, Martinez has been the subject of controversy for a series of uncalled-for antics in the name of celebrating.  Notably, he took several jibes at World Cup finalist Kylian Mbappe; something which did not sit well with a large section of fans.  In recent days, Martinez has been nicknamed 'the most hated man in football'.  Look who's back. šŸ‘€ šŸ‡¦šŸ‡· @EmiMartinezz1 pic.twitter.com/fbwALBkRyV — Aston Villa (@AVFCOfficial) December 30, 2022  As reported by Daily Mail, the shot-stopper is now set for crunch talks with his manager Unai Emery on his behavior post-Qatar.  The Villains' boss was among those who were critical of the goalkeeper’s actions, but said he was more fo...

'Those Words Won't Come Out Of My Mouth': Ancelotti Refuses To Call Messi Best Ever

Image
In the latest press conference, Real Madrid's coach Carlo Ancelotti was asked whether he thinks Leo Messi is the best player in history following his World Cup triumph. "It's hard to say. He's a great footballer. He has had a spectacular career but I don't know if he is the best in history because every era had very important players. These words won't come out of my mouth, I won't say he is the best," Mundo Deportivo quote Ancelotti saying. "I have enjoyed all players, and now I have a Ballon d'Or winner each day beside me (Karim Benzema). I have seen Maradona and Cruyff and I enjoyed their game." Of course, it is no surprise that the Madrid coach refuses to call Messi the greatest of all time. But Leo doesn't need his approval anyway, his performances on the pitch and his trophy cabinet speak for themselves. Source: Tribuna

3 Times Pele Played At Camp Nou In His Lifetime

Image
Pele never played in Europe at the club level but that doesn't mean that he never travelled across the Atlantic for friendly matches. Since the level of the Brazilian league was incredibly high at the time, European clubs would often invite them for friendlies, and Barcelona was no exception. Thus, the King got to play at Camp Nou three times during his time at Santos. 1. Barca 1-5 Santos Pele's first game at Camp Nou was in 1959, and he was already a world champion at that time. The forward scored twice in that game. 2. Barca 4-3 Santos On Pele's return in 1960, he scored another goal. However, it was not enough to overcome the solid team performance from the Catalans led by Luis Suarez Miramontes and Lazlo Kubala. 3. Barca 2-0 Santos Pele's third and final game at Camp Nou was in 1963. At that time, he was already considered the best footballer to have ever existed. However, he could not contribute with much in that exact game. And here are some pictures of Pele at Ca...
