Abramovich could yet choose Ratcliffe over Boehly for Chelsea sale

Image
British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe's last-minute bid for Chelsea has received serious consideration. Todd Boehly's consortium is understood to remain on course to be confirmed as the preferred bidder and then handed the opportunity to seal a Stamford Bridge takeover, reports PA Sport. Britain's richest man Ratcliffe confirmed a last-ditch £4.25billion offer to buy Chelsea on Friday however, tabled at the very tail-end of the sale process. Ineos owner Ratcliffe carried out extensive due diligence on Chelsea in 2019 only to opt against submitting a formal offer to buy the west London club. The British billionaire had distanced himself from a bid for Chelsea in early March, with his brother Bob reiterating previous determination at Ineos not to be “dumb money" in football, but crucially, Ratcliffe never categorically ruled himself out of a bid for the Blues. Chelsea chiefs are understood to have anticipated a bid from Ratcliffe, the 69-year-old petrochemicals boss who boug...

Jackson hails 'emotional' Burnley victory over Watford

Image
Burnley scored twice in the final seven minutes to complete a dramatic comeback that pulled them five points clear of the Premier League relegation zone and left hosts Watford on the brink of relegation. Jack Cork's diving header from Charlie Taylor's left-wing cross cancelled out James Tarkowski's early own goal, before Josh Brownhill found the bottom corner from the edge of the box to spark jubilant scenes among the travelling fans and in the away dugout at Vicarage Road. Watford had taken a deserved early lead when Juraj Kucka's fierce effort struck the crossbar before rebounding off the unfortunate Tarkowski and into the unguarded net. The Hornets carried the greater threat in the first half, Kiko Femenia striking the near post from an inswinging corner and Joao Pedro blazing over the crossbar after escaping the Clarets defence. Aaron Lennon and Ashley Barnes forced fine saves out of Ben Foster in the second half, but there was little the veteran goalkeeper could do...

Thibaut Courtois brutally trolls Barcelona after Real Madrid win 35th La Liga title

Image
Thibaut Courtois did not resist the chance to aim a sly dig at arch-rivals Barcelona after winning La Liga 2021/22 with Real Madrid. Quoted by Tiempo de Juego, the goalkeeper said: "After the El Clasico, someone was celebrating as if they won the league." For context, Barcelona hit one of their biggest highs under Xavi by beating Madrid 4-0 in March. However, Los Blancos pulled through in the end and are 17 points clear at the top of the table. Meanwhile, Real Madrid have won their 35th league title after a 4-0 win over Espanyol. Source: Tiempo de Juego @ Twitter

Real Madrid secure 35th La Liga title in style

Image
Real Madrid won the 35th La Liga title in the club’s history, as a Rodrygo double in a dominant 4-0 victory over Espanyol at the Santiago BernabĆ©u fired ‘Los Blancos’ to the Spanish title in style. This match provided the challenge of a juggling act to Carlo Ancelotti. On the one hand the title could be clinched with only one point required, but on the other there was a one-goal deficit to overturn against Manchester City in their UEFA Champions League (UCL) semi-final second leg on Wednesday. He was already without Ɖder MilitĆ£o and Nacho Fernandez due to domestic suspensions, but Ancelotti put faith in his squad as he made eight changes from the side that started the first leg against City. Whilst Espanyol may have secretly not had any qualms being the side that helped mathematically end their city rivals Barcelona’s slim chances of catching ‘Los Blancos’, there was the opportunity to complete a first league double over their opponents since 1995/96. Man City U18s pull off epic 13-0 win over Newcastle to clinch youth league title

Image
Manchester City's Under-18 side has beaten Newcastle United 13-0 (yes, 13 goals to nil!) to clinch the youth Premier League title in style. That's a mad scoreline, considering they scored so many goals but did not concede even one on the other end. The Newcastle clash was the young team's final home game of the season and they certainly did not disappoint. Youngsters William Dickinson and Nico O'Reilly scored a hat-trick each while Carlos Borges and Josh Adams chipped in with braces. A few of their other teammates found the back of the net, as well as the youth team, stamped their mark on the competition. Meanwhile, the senior City squad is fighting with Liverpool to defend the Premier League title in 2021/22. Source: Man City @ Twitter

'It’s a bit of a difficult situation for him': Tuchel provides update on Saul's situation at Chelsea

Image
Thomas Tuchel spoke about the predicament Saul Niguez finds himself him after moving to Chelsea but not having any real game time. "We will talk about it at the end of the season," said the boss. "At the moment it’s a bit of a difficult situation for him personally, but what I like about him is that he still gives his input. "It is like this in team sports. Even if it does not make you happy, and I’m sure that he is not happy about the situation, he is still pushing and he is still positive and he takes care about the quality in training with the group that does not play so much. "Which means a lot to me and means a lot to the atmosphere in the dressing room and within the group that we stay competitive."

Pogba & more 8 horrible transfer decisions made by Matt Judge at Manchester United

Image
Matt Judge resigned from his position as Man United’s Director of Football Negotiations on Friday. He had basically worked as the club’s transfer chief since 2014, negotiating with clubs for players and also negotiating player contracts too. In his term, he left the club with a net spend of -£600m and made some really poor signings. Here we take a look at his worst decisions at Old Trafford. The entire Alexis Sanchez deal Judge was the one who organized the deal that saw Alexis Sanchez arrive at Man United in 2018, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan joining Arsenal in a straight swap. Not only was Sanchez given the no.7 shirt, but he was also given a lot of luxuries by Judge & co. Sanchez received over £500,000-a-week wages, making him the highest-paid player at United during his stint at the club. In 45 appearances for United, he scored just 4 goals and provided 9 assists. He’s regarded as one of United’s worst ever signings and the overly expensive, inflated deal with all Judge’s doing. Bri...

Jurgen Klopp reacts to James Milner's display vs Newcastle

Image
"Outstanding. Milly is Milly. He's incredibly important for us," Jurgen Klopp said after Liverpool's win over Newcastle about James Milner. "His leadership is helpful, especially when his manager isn't a native speaker! But on the pitch he played a super game. “He was involved in absolutely everything. When Milly is on the pitch he is responsible for giving the whole group energy as well, which is not easy. "On top of that he is a top footballer. He played a great game. Like a lot of players today and it was necessary. "Everything we've achieved wouldn't be possible without James Milner," Klopp added while pointing out that the club is not aware yet whether the 36-year-old will stay at the club beyond this season. In a rare start against Newcastle, Milner was outstanding, winning almost every duel in his time on the pitch. The veteran was even branded the Man of the Match by the broadcasters BT Sport.

'For me, it is a top week': Jurgen Klopp on first win after signing new contract

Image
"I feel great. For me, it is a top week and I’m really happy that I signed a new contract," Jurgen Klopp told BBC after the 1-0 win over Newcastle. "It is an incredible place with incredible people. It’s exactly what I want at a club I love. "I don’t take these things for granted and that is why it is a top week so far." The Newcastle game was the first match for Liverpool after Klopp extended his contract with the club until 2026. The Reds keep going for the unthinkable, as they are still in the running for the Premier League, the Champions League and the FA Cup trophies after lifting the Carabao Cup - and the quadruple chase is something that might've played a role in Klopp's thinking to commit to the club for the long term. Pochettino clarifies stance of his and Mbappe's chances of staying at PSG next season

Image
Mauricio Pochettino has clarified what he meant when he recently said that he and Kylian Mbappe would ‘100%’ be at PSG next season. He explained: “I said me and Mbappe will 100% stay at PSG next season? No.. “I was talking about the present.” This basically sums up the uncertainty around the future of Mbappe and Pochettino at the Ligue 1 club as the season draws to a close. Mauricio is likely to be sacked by PSG and replaced by Zinedine Zidane next season, while Mbappe is still on course to join Real Madrid for free in the summer. Source: Amazon Prime Video

Ten Hag makes Frenkie de Jong his 'priority' for summer

Image
Erik ten Hag has made the signing of Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona a priority for the summer transfer window, claims reliable journalist Gerard Romero. The Dutchman wants to sign his ex-Ajax star as his ideal midfield signing and help fix some of the issues at Old Trafford. Barca thinks that United could offer them player swaps in an attempt to sweeten any potential offer. The La Liga side believes the Red Devils will offer Harry Maguire, Marcus Rashford and Alex Telles for them to choose from. But Barca could actually be interested in signing Scott McTominay and Anthony Elanga from them instead. The Spanish side would ideally prefer to get a sizeable transfer fee – possibly over €70m – if they were to sell De Jong and help fund some of their own summer transfers. Juventus interested in Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic.

Image
Juventus are interested in Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic. Tuttosport says Juventus are open to a move for Matic, who is off contract in June. Change is on the horizon for United at the end of this campaign and that is particularly the case in central midfield. United were already wanting to make at least one signing in that position, while Matic and Paul Pogba are set to leave. Having been linked with a return swoop for Pogba, the Old Lady are credited with further interest in Matic. Also keen on the Serb veteran is Jose Mourinho's AS Roma.

PSG offer Ousmane Dembele huge '€17m-a-year' contract before possible summer move

Image
Ousmane Dembele has received a contract offer from PSG, who are willing to give him €17m-a-year wages (after tax) to join them, as per reliable Spanish journalist Toni Juanmarti. The Frenchman is on the verge of becoming a free agent in the summer after failing to sign a contract extension with Barcelona. PSG are eager to sign him and are offering him way more wages than what the La Liga giants are willing to give. With Kylian Mbappe set to leave in the summer, Dembele could be roped in as a possible replacement without having to pay a fee. But Ousmane has not yet struck an agreement with PSG as he still ponders on what he wants to do in the future. Source: Tjuanmarti @Twitter

Image
As per The Telegraph and other sources, Todd Boehly's consortium have won the race to purchase Chelsea. Although there has not yet been official confirmation from the Boehly group, The Telegraph confirm that Boehly has been chosen as the preferred bidder. He edges out Stephen Pagliuca, Sir Martin Broughton and a late bid from Sir Jim Ratcliffe which was more than Boehly's bid. The report adds: "Chelsea’s intention is to advance Boehly and his group for UK Government approval ahead of a licence for the sale of the club to be issued." Source: The Telegraph

Ralf Rangnick urges Man United to sign 'future top players' like Erling Haaland

Image
"My opinion is Manchester United should try to find future top players and try to develop them," explained Ralf Rangnick in his press conference. "[Erling] Haaland is 21; this is one of those players. He has developed into one of the most expensive strikers in the world. "He would be one of those examples I think the emphasis should be on: that we should try and convince players who should be Manchester United players for the next years." The interim boss was then asked if the club will struggle to attract top players after missing out on Champions League qualification for next season. Rangnick replied: "As a club with these supporters, the stadium, quality of training ground, I would say yes, but as soon as other clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City are involved you need some good reasons. "Someone needs to explain to the players and that is why it is important what Erik [ten Hag] thinks. "I know from Jurgen [Klopp] and Thomas [Tuch...

Value of Chelsea's buyback clause for Tammy Abraham and when it activates

Image
Tammy Abraham is enjoying a great season with AS Roma. The former Chelsea man has scored 15 goals in 33 Serie A appearances, as well as getting 4 assists. He averages one key pass and dribble per game, alongside 2.6 shots. He is fouled 1.3 times per game - for context, that is twice more than Mohamed Salah in the Premier League. Abraham went for £34 million last summer. However, Chelsea added a buyback clause to his deal which they can activate in 2023 - not this summer. The buyback clause is worth £67 million, almost twice what Chelsea sold him for. However, as per other sources, Roma have slapped a £100m price tag on Tammy's head and if an offer around that range comes this summer, they will sell him. This would negate Chelsea's buy-back clause.

So I was too good for the whole competition. That is what I showed. And I'm the best ever to play in MLS and that is not me having ego or trying to show off now. That is true. "And when I was there, I enjoyed [it]. I had a good time. And I like the way they were working, the way they were doing the marketing stuff. "And I think [playing in MLS] was the best way for me to come back after my injury. I was in the best condition ever. And I'm very proud I played for the MLS, because they were saying to me the stadiums are pretty empty when you play in that. "There was no empty stadiums when I was playing. Eintracht Frankfurt attempt another Barca-like invasion at West Ham, fail woefully

Image
Eintracht Frankfurt attempted to invade the London stadium in their Europa League semi-final game against West Ham on Thursday, but it was an epic failure from the Germans. West Ham knew exactly what happened in Camp Nou in mid-April. Hence, they issued a strong warning, threatening to ban any of their supporters who re-sold their tickets to rival fans. As it happened, 10,000 Frankfurt fans traveled from Germany to England to flood the London stadium and support their team, but only 3000 of those trooping fans were allowed to enter the facility. Image
Michel Platini's teammate Jean Francois Larios was left out of France's Euro 1984 squad after allegedly having an affair with Platini's wife. Platini had been playing alongside Larios at the Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne when rumours about the affair started to appear in the French media. Platini, France's best player at the time, went to national team head coach Michel Hidalgo to make sure that Larios was never part of the squad again. Larios said back in 2017: "It it was love at first sight [with Platini's wife], a true love story. We thought we were well hidden but unfortunately, it was rumoured. With him [Platini], we no longer spoke. But we continued to play together. When you have a contract, you shut your mouth. We were in the middle of the championship, there was the World Cup coming. In January 1982, I went to see coach Michel Hidalgo to explain the situation to him. I suggest to him that for the good of the team, I will pretend an injury and not go to th...
