Pep Guardiola handed ban by Premier League after rule change, nobody knew until now

Image
Pep Guardiola will serve a touchline ban during Wolves v Manchester City, commentator Jacqui Oatley has confirmed. Earlier this week, Newcastle United defeated City 1-0 in the third round of the Carabao Cup. During the game, Guardiola was served a yellow card by referee Chris Kavanagh after remonstrating with the fourth official. However, when discussing the booking in the post-match press conference, the 52-year-old admitted it was ‘deserved’. "I don’t know how many fouls they did, how many fouls we had and the number of yellow cards," he said. "But it is what it is, sometimes the emotions are there. Respect for the referees and their job. A well-deserved yellow card.” Due to Kavanagh showing Guardiola a yellow during the Carabao Cup game, the Premier League has announced that the City boss has been banned from the touchline at the Molineux Stadium today (Saturday, 30 September) due to a rule change. Ralf Rangnick recommended nine transfer targets at Man Utd, three are now at Man City instead

Image
Ralf Rangnick reportedly made cases for up to nine elite players to come on board at Manchester United during his tenure. Following the Red Devils’ dismissal of Ole Gunner SolskjƦr, Rangnick was appointed interim manager on 29 November 2021. Following his short period at the helm of United, the 65-year-old was due to continue in a consultancy role for a further two years. On 2 December 2021, the German’s work permit was approved and in his first game in charge, he helped guide the side to a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace. However, following a 4-0 loss to Liverpool later in the season, Ragnick expressed that United needed to heavily invest in the upcoming transfer window. He believed that his temporary team were “six years behind” Jurgen Klopp’s Reds, and that United would need to conduct ‘open-heart’ surgery if they wanted to grace the top of the Premier League table again. After steering the club to sixth place, Rangnick ended up leaving the consultancy role on the table to became the ma...

Pep Guardiola suggests Spain-style player strike in ambitious plan to end Premier League injury crisis

Image
Pep Guardiola has spoken out about congested football schedules and has urged male players to take a leaf out of the Spanish women’s national team’s book. Earlier this summer, Spain’s historic Women’s World Cup win was overshadowed by former Spanish FA president Luis Rubiales kissing Jenni Hermoso without her consent. Despite Rubiales’ initial refusal to step down from his role, the 46-year-old eventually resigned from his post while ex-La Roja manager, Jorge Vilda, was sacked. Following an 81-player boycott of the national team, it’s said that Spanish stars such as Alexia Putellas and Aitana Bonmati recently came to an ‘agreement’ to end the strike. Much like in women’s football, heavy domestic and international schedules are taking their toll on top Premier League teams. With the likes of Manchester United, City and Arsenal all being plagued with injuries, Pep Guardiola believes that men’s football should be inspired to take a stand. Speaking to in his pre-match press conference on F...

According to Spanish outlet El Nacional, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner is due to say farewell to the team, co-owned by David Beckham, upon the expiration of his contract in 2025. Image
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has been handed a key injury boost with one of his star players spotted ahead of the side's trip to Bournemouth. The Gunners travel to the south coast on Saturday afternoon to take on Andoni Iraola's side, with the game kicking off at 3pm. But Arteta will be without several key players due to injury, with Jurrien Timber among those out long-term. The Dutch defender has a serious knee injury, and will not return until next year. The list of injury problems, though, continues, with five players all nursing knocks ahead of the Bournemouth clash. But Arteta looks as if he could have one of those players available after he was spotted ahead of the Bournemouth clash. Lamine Yamal compilation goes viral after dazzling display vs Sevilla, Barcelona have a star on their hands

Image
A compilation of Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal has gone viral after his performance against Sevilla on Friday evening. At 16 years of age, Yamal has already broken into Barcelona's first team and has already drawn comparisons to a young Lionel Messi. But while many youngsters have earned that tag over the years, Yamal appears to be the real deal. His opportunity has arrived following the departure of Ousmane Dembele to PSG, and the fact that Barca did not sign his replacement shows how much trust and belief they have in Yamal. The Spain youth international started on the right side of attack against Sevilla, playing 81 minutes as Barca edged a 1-0 win. Much was made of his potential battle against Sergio Ramos, who is back at Sevilla this season after 18 years away. But the 37-year-old veteran was left on the losing side - and scored an own goal shortly before Yamal left the pitch. Yamal, meanwhile, enhanced his reputation with another display that proves why Barca rate him so h...

Image
Burnley boss Vincent Kompany has come up with a plan to reduce injuries in football. As the 23/24 season begins to take shape, it has been reported that almost 100 Premier League players are either ruled out of this weekend’s matches or facing a late battle to prove their fitness. Over the last few seasons, top managers in the Premier League have criticised the football schedule amid concerns over their players' welfare. Speaking ahead of his side’s match against Newcastle United on Saturday, Burnley boss Kompany has come up with a plan to limit the number of matches a player can play during a season. He said: “For the players at the top, who have to play for their national teams and all of these other competitions, it should be capped appearances within a season. “Put a number on it. It's not for me to put a number on it, (but) 60 or 65 games. They (still) have to work hard, don't get me wrong, but 60 games takes a little bit away. It would put the pressure more on coaches...

EPL and EFL agree to sell their TV rights together for the first time

Image
The Premier League are set to agree an historic deal with the EFL in which they will sell their television rights together for the first time. Under the terms of a proposal from the Premier League that was presented to clubs earlier today the EFL will also receive 14.75 per cent of their pooled media rights from next season and an £88million bonus payment this season, with collective selling to begin in 2028. The details presented to EFL clubs at a meeting in Derby represent a major breakthrough in what has been a protracted stand-off with the Premier League for several years, and will lead to an immediate increase in funding for the lower divisions. Whilst the exact figures will depend on future television deals the 14.75 per cent share is expected to more than double the current £130m in solidarity payments the Premier League provide to the EFL, a figure which excludes parachute payments. The agreement to sell television rights on a collective basis is also hugely significant, and sh...

Image
Antony reportedly faced five hours of questioning at a Manchester police station over allegations of domestic abuse, made by his former lover Gabriela Cavallin. The 23-year-old Brazilian was seen being escorted into the police station by a member of Manchester United security at around 4pm on Thursday afternoon. He and his entourage left his Cheshire mansion in a blacked out Mercedes to go to the police station, where the Sun have reported that he faced five hours of questioning. It has been claimed Antony - who has denied any wrongdoing - contacted Greater Manchester Police (GMP) and volunteered to meet them for questioning after also speaking to police during his time in Brazil. The Brazilian winger was granted a leave of absence by the Premier League club earlier this month to fight allegations made by ex-girlfriend Gabriella Cavallin and two other women. Antony, who joined Man United for £85m in the summer of 2022, was accused of headbutting and punching Cavallin - allegedly damagi...

Sassuolo coach Dionisi: Victory over Inter Milan the best since I arrived

Image
Sassuolo coach Alessio Dionisi says victory over Inter Milan was their best performance since he took charge. Domenico Berardi proved the matchwinner at San Siro stadium. Dionisi later said: "As for today's performance, it doesn't make me think of the Frosinone match: it's too early to have regrets. "Every performance gives confirmation and some players are growing in awareness. To date , I put this one in first place among all the matches played: Inter are really strong, we've only faced a few others but I don't see any stronger ones in Serie A. "To date it's the most important performance we've had since I've been here." He also said: "I say two words: humility and ambition. We have personalities, ambition leads you to never be satisfied. The risk is having a full belly, if we are more ambitious than what we have shown so far we will be able to have few regrets in the future.  Humility I see it in individuals and it's there...

Image
Liverpool could see a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah move to fierce rivals Manchester United instead. Over the last few weeks of the summer transfer window, Salah was the subject of intense interest from Saudi Professional League side Al Ittihad. However, Liverpool stood firm as they were adamant that their talisman was not for sale at any price. Planning ahead, Al Ittihad will reportedly reignite their interest in Salah in future transfer windows. With that in mind, Liverpool have been drawing up a shortlist of players to replace Salah. Juventus star Federico Chiesa is one of many players linked with Liverpool since the Salah news first emerged. However, despite the Anfield club agreeing to a new £164 million investment from global sports investment firm Dynasty Equity, Jurgen Klopp’s transfer budget is set to remain the same. To add to the misery, Chiesa is reportedly also on United’s wanted list. According to Italian news outlet Calcio Mercato, United have sounded out Chies...

Chelsea told they'll 'create the next Mo Salah or Kevin De Bruyne' if they sell one player

Image
Chelsea have been warned that they are at risk of having another Mo Salah or Kevin De Bruyne situation if they sell Mykhailo Mudryk. Mudryk signed for the Blues from Shakhtar Donetsk in January for a fee of £88.5 million and had a promising debut against Liverpool at Anfield. However, the 22-year-old has struggled to do the business at Stamford Bridge and is still waiting for his first goal for the club in 23 appearances. But Chelsea legend Pat Nevin is convinced the Ukrainian has the quality to be a top player and believes his former club need to be careful with him given the situation going back on in his home country. Mudryk, now wearing the No.10 shirt, received a standing ovation when he was replaced by Raheem Sterling in the 68th minute during his latest outing against Brighton. And the impressive display was enough for Nevin to claim that Mudryk could follow both Salah and De Bruyne in rebuilding their careers away from west London in the event that Chelsea lose patience. Earlier in the summer, Getafe signed Mason Greenwood on a season-long loan from Manchester United after the conclusion of the Old Trafford club’s internal investigation. Since then, Getafe and Greenwood have been on the end of some brutal chants from rival fans. On the back of their 2-2 draw against Athletic Bilbao in La Liga on Wednesday, Getafe released a strong statement. It read: “Getafe CF wants to express total disapproval of the derogatory and intolerant chants, especially serious insults, which have been occurring repeatedly during the LaLiga season and which damage the image and also the morale of our players and coaching staff. “Insulting chants, out of any civic context, aggravated with criticism that we respect as freedom of expression from a sporting point of view, but that we do not share when that critical current is attributed with derogatory epithets, insults and disrespect to the memb...

The Catalan club have been charged with suspected bribery by Judge Joaquin Aguirre, as per Spanish outlet El Debate, over payments made to the former vice-president of the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA), Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira, over a 17-year period. Barcelona are alleged to have paid €7.5 million (€7.9 million) to companies owned by Negreira between 2001 and 2018, including during current chief Joan Laporta's first spell as president. Barcelona and Laporta have both denied any wrongdoing in the case. In February, Barca said, as per Reuters, they had paid an external consultant who supplied them with 'technical reports related to professional refereeing', claiming this was a common practice among professional clubs. In a press conference earlier this year, Laporta called the case a 'gigantic reputational...

Liverpool owner John Henry has explained why 'cash influx' from Dynasty Equity sale won't be used on transfers

Image
Liverpool principal owner John W Henry has already explained why the new ‘cash influx’ will not be used on transfers. Over the last few months, it was widely reported that Liverpool were looking for investors from the outside to boost the club’s finance. On Thursday afternoon, it was confirmed that global sports investment firm Dynasty Equity has completed a minor investment in the Anfield club. According to different reports, the stake Dynasty Equity has taken in Liverpool is estimated to be worth around £80-£160 million. However, the new investment does not mean the club’s transfer budget will automatically be increased. Back in March, Liverpool’s principal owner Henry, stressed that the investment would be for the long-term health of the club rather than short-term. He told the Echo: “Our efforts every day have been and continue to be focused on the long-term health and competitiveness of the club. “Investment in the club is never for the short term. This approach has been successfu...

Barca charged with 'active bribery' in Negreira case

Image

Spanish Judge Joaquín Aguirre, head of Investigative court number 1 in Barcelona, has stated that their payments made would constitute to a bribery offence. While Barca have not been charged with the 'systematic corruption' allegations, they've been found guilty of illegally paying Є7m to Negreira. Alongside Negreira, former Barca presidents Josep Maria Bartomeu and Sandro Rosell have also been charged. The judges order states that 'it is clear that the payments made to the Enríquez Negreira family were for him to carry out acts related to his position, either because of his influence with other members of the CTA in charge of appointing referees, or because he scored the referees, conditioning their promotion or relegation, or because of his general influence as vice-president and the ascendancy over other members of the CTA, which he must ...

Chelsea's Armando Broja was involved in the worst offside decision of all-time

Image
Chelsea striker Armando Broja was involved in the worst offside call we've ever seen in a professional game on Wednesday night. The Blues finally scored in September and got back to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Brighton in the Carabao Cup third round. Nicolas Jackson scored the only goal of the game at Stamford Bridge to set up a clash with Championship side Blackburn Rovers in the fourth round. But while there were good feelings around Chelsea again, there was a shocking decision which left fans in utter disbelief. In stoppage time, Enzo Fernandez threaded through a delicious pass for substitute Broja to latch onto. Yet, inexplicably, the linesman flagged for offside. That was despite Broja clearly being in his own half at the time the ball was played and therefore being onside. Mauricio Pochettino was absolutely enraged by the baffling decision and ended up getting a yellow card for his complaints. A fourth said: "Embarrassing that the referee flagged Broja in his ow...

Manchester United could lose eight players for nothing in 2024 including £118million worth of talent

Image
Manchester United are set to lose eight players for nothing next summer. The Old Trafford club have been proactive in securing their stars to new contract since Erik ten Hag took charge last summer, with Marcus Rashford, Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw all committing their futures. Nevertheless, several first-teamers remain in the final year of their contracts. Indeed, at present United are set to lose eight players for free at the end of the current campaign. While Ten Hag will be happy to see some of them depart as he continues his rebuild, others still have one-year options the club can trigger should they be needed. Aaron Wan-Bissaka, signed from Crystal Palace in 2019 for £50million, has fought his way into Ten Hag’s plans, establishing himself as the club’s first-choice right-back after a difficult first season under the Dutchman. He is one of several players who has an option of another 12 months in his contract. French striker Anthony Martial is another who could depart for free next...

Manchester United's central defender, Harry Maguire, has recently been the talk of the town after being seen in a boxing ring prior to the much-anticipated fight between Tyson Fury and KSI. Despite a challenging start to the new season with Manchester United, where he has been benched by Erik ten Hag, Maguire seems to be faring well off the pitch. Maguire's sole start this season was during United's Carabao Cup match against Crystal Palace on Tuesday night. Partnered with Raphael Varane in central defence, Maguire played a crucial role in United's 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace, securing their place in the fourth round of the tournament, as reported by Sky Sports.
